| DREAM TEAM PROMOTIONS |
|
Location: - |

<"612">
Only a few days left to get your entries for the dream team competition
into the club. Not many entries in at the mo - you've go to be in it to win
it! It doesn't matter if you don't know half the players or anything about
rugby, have a shot, who knows, you might even hit the jackpot and all monies
raised go to club funds so do your bit!
Dreams:
You could have saved yourself a lot of effort, but I suppose the funds
will come in handy. There is only one Dream Team. That’s the team that took
Annan to Premier 3 and Murryfield. Nuff said.
|
keepurstandardsup:
Yes that was a decent team although you fail to recall that we were at
Murrayfield because we were dumped out of the main competition in the 1st
round and were the highest ranked team remaining in that competition.
Although nice to be there and play on the big stage it was hardly an
achievement winning the c**ts cup as it is affectionately known. The team
that lost to GHK in the real cup were far better!!
|
ThinkB4Utypestupid:
Murryfield point accepted, but it was still a dream for players and fans.
That aside, that Team are the Dream Team taking Annan to the highest position
they will probably ever achieve.
|
ThinkB4Utypestupid:
Murryfield point accepted, but it was still a dream for players and fans.

|
local historian:
what about the team that played and emerged victorious from the 'battle of
carrick'?
|
historians apprentice:
Do go on of this battle of carrick historian, I am curious.
|
KURSup@i'm no stupid:
I say again the team that got to the semi-final of the SHIELD & lost
to Selkirk were a stronger team. They humped Edinburgh Wands who were a good
side getting there. If players like Jevs, Sean Bucks, Gogs, Shaun mcG and Big
Stuff had been playing then Micheal Rennie would'nt have got a game let alone
been named man of the match !
|
jj:
Hate to admit it but we lost the 'Battle of Carrick'
|
coach minto:
That Annan team that got to the shield semi were a confident team after
several seasons winning the leagues - (mind you they were taught a lesson by
that Selkirk back row!). But everyone in that team isn't listed in the dream
team competition so don't waste your time. Pay your £1 and enter the
competition. I know who I'm votng for - champs not chumps.
|
Professor Snape:
Following the battle of
Carrick there should have been a lesson learnt. Unfortunately Annan seem to
have completely forgotten how to do what Mr Minto did to Annan in the semi
final of the Shield.

<"609">
Onny, if yor listening. I've just came back from Dublin and the next Oki
Doki Tour must go back to the capital!! I want to go to the game at Croke
Park and who cares if there is thousands of Scots it only adds to the crack.
Dublin it is, don't make me fight you!!
tour tale teller:
Galway was a nice change and hats off to Onny for broadening the tourists'
horizons, once again he done us proud with first-rate tour. However, let's be
honest it was a bit of a shithole. The girls were not up to scratch and many
of the citizens appeared deformed in some way. The pubs were mediocre and the
discos of a sub-Dumfries standard (yes, that bad) it's time to get back to
basics. With Hadden at the helm we no longer have to pretend there isn't a
game on so here's to Dublin 2006
|
dublin 2008 campaigner:
Bazz I'm not sure if 2008 match will be at Croke Park, Lansdowne is due to
be finished by then but knowing how lazy and disorganized the Paddies are
that may be a moot point. But yes, the time is right for Oki Doki to make a
triumphant return to the capital. Three nights in Dubs, Mullingar is so 20th
century!
|
tour tale teller:
Of course I meant, here's to Dublin 2008! Unless anyone fancies a wee
puddle jump later in the year!
|
onny who else:
Bazz I will go where the majority want to go after all 2008 will be last
ever Oki Doki tour and I want to finish my career as a tour operator on a
high.So its between Dublin and Cork Bazz you wouldn't hit your wee oompah
loompah mate would you.
|
Big Stuff:
I'd go back to that Hotel we went to last time in dublin at the drop of a
hat and I suppose if you want to see other bits of Ireland Shearings do a
very nice line in Bus tours. Dublin gets my vote Onny - if only to avoid
another early morning rise and dodgy bus trip. I'm sure the lads wont mind
paying a bit extra for decent flight times. (I'm off to find a hat that I can
drop should the need arise)
|
I
told you so:
Told you lot you wouldnae like going out of Dublin but you wouldnae
listen. Shoulda went tae Mullingar with the boys ya wallys.
An aw that cr*p youse were spouting to Onny, "Ooh thanks, best trip ever
blah blah" aye right! yer aw 2 faced.
|
Bertie:
Nice of 'I Told You So' to hide behind an assumed name whilst slagging
people off! Onny did well to try somewhere new - everyone I spoke to seemed
to enjoy it, apart from the early flights! Dublin def the place to be, was
already planning to go there anyway! Back to the Russel Crowe hotel sounds
like a good plan Big Stuff - they might even have finished laying the tram
tracks outside!!!
|
Ed:
Must admit I enjoyed Galway, for a change and can't agree with the
comments about the discos, we were able to strut our stuff doing the
"funky gibbon", "tiger feet" and "the
hucklebuck" to our hearts content, "not 'alf mate"
I agree with Bertram, Onny did a sterling job.
|
tour tale teller:
'I told you so' you are a fud. No-one is being two-faced here the truth is
that Onny did run a first-rate tour but Galway let us down slightly, with
Dublin the call for 2008. Certainly was better than bein with you clowns in
the 'Gar, whoever you are. As has been said that cattle hamlet is so 20th
Century. The Oki Doki boys shagged it dry years ago so hope you enjoyed
stirring our porridge, if you managed to get any at all that is!
|
whatyaon.com:
??????? there wasn't any shagging.
|
And I really did tell you:
Well "Tour tale teller", hit on a sensitive spot did we?? The
Gar' tottie reckon this was the best ever year, no wit ah mean, wee boy?
Naw you losers go to Dublin where you belong, amongst aw the other
pikies.

sorry mr startled the few good games they did play were far few between

theyl be fighting relagation again next year.its going to take honesty
players too look at thear failings t o improve and hard work to turn it
round.sorry lads time to be honest
Andy:
It is easy to be critical Mr Dido so to prove it I will be critical of
your shocking spelling and sentence structure.
Surely your point is that the good games were 'few and far between' and that
'THEY' proved etc. We need to look 'TO' the bad games and it's 'RELEGATION',
players will look at 'THEIR' failings. We know our problems, we also know our
potential.
|
andy's english teacher:
get it up u dido
|
Smook:
Is the 'L' silent in Dido, then?
|
Ed:
In reply to Andy’s comments about Dido’s complex sentence structure,
above, I amused myself with defining 'relagation'. The serious point is in
that pseudo-academics and management-gurus clutter up their writing with
tortured English. In law, there is much to be said for properly defining
constructs and that goes for many other academic areas which work within the
human sphere rather than the physical world. However, Plain English often
helps rather than hinders those areas and good communicators need to be able
to both take on board the complexities of the academic, yet be able to
explain in terms that a lay-person can understand. Not everybody can do that
and there is room for different sorts of people - I have a friend (Bertie)
who can hardly make himself understood, yet has a wonderfully clever academic
mind.
Just out of curiosity and having a laugh at some unnamed writers on this page
- would people set out their favourite examples of 'much ado about nothing'
where literary mountains have been made from mole-hill concepts.
|
Don:
Woodman, have you flipped?
|
sleep deprived minto:
Ed, yes, that English prop at the start of this season...the English
writers said he is the greatest scrummager around...a man mountain...the
platform to build for world cup glory...single handedly smashed the Aussie
front row...then he got a bit of Irish, Scottish and Kiwi up him and where is
he now ...champ or chump - you decide!
|
Not So Cunning Linguist:
Ed, you're quite correct in what you say. However, in order for me to
fully concur with your assertions, I would require you to consider the
possible incidences of intertextuality between the Good News Bible and Ace of
Spades by Motorhead.
|
Ed:
Good to see "Sleep Deprived" and "Not so Cunning" have
grabbed the ball and are running with it.
See Don, english can be fun, why don't you learn it sometime!
Ha ha, my little joke, substituted an exclamation mark for a question mark,
did you see that.
Oops, should never analyse comedy.
|
Ed:
Errr...Frankie, think your comments are for another thread.
If not, then nice try.
|
Ed:
Ah, an interesting one Mr “Not so cunning ..”
I’m drawn back to that old chestnut, that we were want, to bandy about in the
club (whilst in our cups, it must be asserted), the “Hegelian” philosophical
principle that out of a thesis and its opposed antithesis comes the hardy
alloy of a synthesis.
This theory has, I feel, a seductive power, even now. We can see the vestiges
of intertextuality within the “easy to read text” of the GNB and the simple
melodic thud of “Ace of Spades”.
I am certain, though, that this topic will continue to be a “hot potato”
(excuse me lapsing into the vernacular here) and will be excitedly debated
within these pages, over the coming days and weeks. I welcome any other
comments on this subject.
Or as Mr A Graham ejaculated, quite wittily this observer thought, during
Saturday’s second IV fixture, “ Wit the f*** wizat aboot?”
|
Don:
Frankie - Quimby as in Fred?
|
Bertie:
Given the apparent erronious nature of the foresaid comment by the
individual identifying himself as Frankie where Ed suggested that the
foresaid Frankie had interjected in the wrong thread, it may be safe to
assume that the Quimby being mentioned is the infamous Mayor Diamond Joe
Quimby from the Simpsons! I may of course, as is my habbitual want, be
uttering nonsensical drivvel, in which case I feel obligated to extract my
statement! (Here Ed - how do ye manage all this prose, you must have too much
time on your hands!)
|
Ed:
I think you're correct about Mayor Quimby, Berticus.

Just want to say that although the result went against us in the end,
the spirit the boys showed against Perthshire was excellent. They showed the
doubters (which on occasions has included myself) that they can play rugby
with passion and guts (yes, blood n snotters stuff Baz). It should provide us
all with optimism for next season and the time to build on that starts now. I
thought Smithy did some excellent things yesterday (on the pitch) and Craig
McCann kicked very well all day. Yes it was a bugger having to watch those
boys celebrate, but that should give us all something to aim for next season.
Remember, yesterday wasn't just about a day's work for Perthshire, it was
about a whole season so they are entitled to their celebrations. Many of us
can remember 7 similar days for the club so lets work hard from now and
create the opportunity for those who havent yet tasted success to do so. If
seeing that yesterday doesn't motivate you I don't know what will. Obliged.
smithy:
As ever bigstuff you provide us with words of wisdom. I would just like to
add that we have one BIG game left, which we should all be up for and would
like to thank PC for his leadership throught the season. Oh aye and obviously
Kenny and Paul for their dedication and hard work. Lets finish on a high and
stuff it right up the muckle toon.
|
Bertie:
Well said Big Stuff, it was indeed an excellent game, our small contingent
of Annan supporters were treated to some fine entertaining rugby! The
potential certainly is there, watching yesterday I think we could end this
season on one heck of a high when we eventually get to the Muckle
Toon!
|
Ed:
Definitely no need for any despondency, The team fronted up and gave
Perthshire a BIG game but once again just edged out by a club with loads more
resources. Proud of the boys, though.

Strict but fair Baz, enough said. Top tour yet again Onny, hopefully i'll

Yes lads the advance party is back with a report from the Emerald Isle
and the news is not good. The pubs are so full of smart young things that you
can hardly get served, if and when you do get served they'll only give you
this funny Black stuff they try and pass off as beer. I didn't like it at
first but once you get to double figures it becomes passable. They made us
sit and drink in the dark with the door locked and the blinds down on Sunday
morning because they said they weren't open! And to top it all off they've
brought in a new law for the pubs called the UBC. I think they got the idea
from Texas.
You'll hate it.
P.S. better practice your Polish and Latvian chat up lines Baz?

Me and Baz have money on it and I would like to prove the white stick

It was the Sunday before we all headed to the Arlington! Great fun it was

Big Stuff:
Onny, according to the 2002 Census, the population of Galway is 66 163 but
I cannot find details on how many own a bicycle anywhere. Have you, as tour
organiser, got Katie Melua's mobile, I'm trying to compose a tour song that
has a modern twist, (something the younger tourists will be able to relate
to), and I assume she's got access to up to date bicycle ownership stats in
most large towns and cities worldwide. No long now, no long now.
|
Katie Melua:
Don't frett Onny, I can confidently state there are 23785 bicycles in
Galway. (No, I couldn't get it to rhyme with anything either Big Stuff, hence
the choice of Beijing)
|
Big Stuff:
Thanks for that Katie, I'll probably just stick to Wild Rover then and get
Billy to play the Irish anthem on his mouth organ instead ( He must know the
whole tune by now).
|
Onny who else:
Sorry Big Stuff had to scrub Katie's number Pauline wasn't happy about it,
and besides that Katie never phoned me back I feel used and violated.
I've a good mind to sell my story and put the monies towards the slush
fund.

URGENT TRAVEL NEWS FROM THE BBC
England supporters awaiting the arrival of the 'Grand slam express'
are advised that due to a points failure and subsequent derailment at
Murrayfield, the 18.12 from Edinburgh has been cancelled.
Further bad news as the A1 south has been blocked by a large number
of wheel less chariots. Police advise that any owner of a vehicle
unable to swing low, should call Scottish emergency services on
0900-GETITUPYEEZ, and await the arrival of someone coming for to carry
them home.
Kind locals are believed to be keeping distressed England supporters supplied

Please post your top stories here when you return so that the old boys can

I doubt there will be any decent stories Paul because as you know Guinness
tastes horrible in Ireland, the atmosphere and hospitality in the pubs will
be stale and all the Irish Lasses will be repulsed by young men in kilts. To
be honest I can't wait till the flight brining us back home from what will no

I thought the only rule on tour was (apart from everyone is required to

Paula, I prepare the newspaper reports and rely on reports of games to be

don't get one I can't incude in the Club report and likewize it can't be

& youth know the system.

Don Barty:
Hi Paula - you might be interested to know that Annan RFC have nominated
the entire Youth Section for "Team of the Year" in the annual
Annandale & Eskdale Sports awards. Also, the publicity which was
generated for the seven players who have gained selection for Glasgow also
came from the Club. We value all of our Youth players very highly and we have
tried to publicise that fact throughout the season. This Club certainly is
not only about the First XV. All teams have equal status and I hope that
everyone sees this as the way forward.

Now I'm offended, what do you mean the entire 3rd team plus Bertie and
Jack Thomson? I was a 3rd team player and the only reason I ever played for

Good to see a lot of votes being cast on the Dream Team page. Remember
you can also put your selection down on paper for a chance to win a prize if
your selection agrees with our specially selected Selection Committee! Entry
forms available behind the bar - only £1 an entry and the money goes towards
club funds so the more entries the merrier - and the more entertaining this
will be!

|
Andy:
Who was on the selection committee for the selection committee?
|
Dream Team Promotions:
Me again! Well we can fully sympathise with the Smith's regarding the
ommission of young Graham from the squad, I was as dumbfounded as the rest of
you - surely just an oversight by our panel! However, fear not, part of the
entry form allows you to enter comments about anything you want so you can
still enter the competition and vent your frustration about Grahams ommission
- remember, there will be a prize for the most amusing comment so it's well
worth a try! As for who is selecting the selection committee - when we have
decided that it'll still be a secret! Get those entries in!

Smithy wasn't entered because he's not good enough compared to those who

Also Baz, if players are prepared to set these standards for themselves,
ie Robert Currie, Andy Render,Keith Hogg & yourself to an extent ( i'm
sure there are a few others)then coaching a group like this is an enjoyable
experience, but when you only get 8 or 9 at training it becomes a slog. Have

Being an optimist Bigstuff, I'd say that we should be concentrating on
the weeks ahead and putting 'that bit extra' in.
90% of the 1st team are all young lads and have no excuse for not doing extra
training. So lets dig deep lads and aim to win these last 2 games. You never
know, that might be enough to keep us up.
Lets have loads of encouragement.
The 2nds should also be looking to finish the season on a high.
All this can only happen if players commit themselves to train during the
week.
Big Stuff:
PC please dont think I am being a critic, that was the last thing on my
mind. The numbers at training suggest that it is only the same few faces that
are prepared to put that extra bit in which simply isn't enough (I looked up
at 7.30 last night and there only appeared to be 8 or 9 senior players out
training)my point was that even if we do stay up what is that going to change
from this season? PS I havent been there this week due to work.
|
PC:
Bigstuff, I didn't see it as criticism and fully understand what you are
saying. I know that you are the first in line to offer support and
encouragement.
We do need to know what all players thoughts and aspirations are for the next

not wait until the end of the season when nobody's about (although going by

before he goes on holiday!!!
|
Bertie:
Nice to know Baz is still classed as one of the young ones!!!!
|
Bob:
Club training 2 nights a week isn't enough, everyone in the 1sts and with
hopes of playing in the 1sts should be in the gym a couple of times a week,
and doing some sprints or running themselves. Motivate each other and do this
work in groups. With a small squad everyone needs to be playing to their full
potential. Come on lads. Best of luck in the last 2 games, get the wins and
see what happens.
|
Bazz:
I wholeheartedly agree Robert, training twice per week should be the bare
minimum required of players. It only takes 45mins for a good strength workout
and 20-30mins for a 3-4mile run so there should be no excuses. Also, I don't
want to sound like a McGauchie but some people need to take a look at their
pre match nutrition!! Steak bakes, what are you thinking!!
|
griff:
well i dont go to the gym as i don't ave decent training programme for it
an dont no wot to do for 45mins. maybe sum of the other players r like this
aswell shud get summit organised to help us out
|
PC:
You may well be right Griff.
Snowy should have a well structured, backs orientated weights program which
I'm sure he'll be more than happy to share.
Me, Bazz and Hoggy are there on Mondays and Wednesdays if anyone needs help.
It's also better to do it with a parter as this creates some competition,
ken.
|
griff:
cheers pc jst cn u 10mins ago like at training. not very many there 2nite
aswell need more people there. will b there at gym on monday feel free to
join in any1? am going to learn th ropes
|
Big Stuff:
Has there been a sponsored silence on until now - why is the lack of
weight training only being discussed at this stage? Anyway, to pick up on
your point about partners at training PC, Back in the day (where of course I
and others allegedly live) we trained in 4 or 5's which meant there was
always someone there to do weights with and encourage each other. The groups
were split into shift workers etc. That might be worthwhile
resurecting.

Scot v Wales
Mr Walsh wants to be a superstar referee so he sends off a player for a foul
that everyone missed. How about we set up a poll for what we would like to do
to that referee?
Jason White - man of the match...but Jonathon Davies doesn't know anything
about the forwards.
dido:
sorry mr minto. but scott murrys apology that the welsh lad got was enough
to convict even though he didnt mean to conect with his head
|
Big Stuff:
Where was the malice? How often do you see players landing numerous
haymakers in a Guiness premiership match and they only receive a yellow at
best. I don't think we'd have won anyway but Walsh is a liability and the
fact he was suspended last year speaks volumes. Another example of the tail
wagging the dog with NZRFU presuring the IRB into letting him back on the
board. (I've never liked refs anyway!!) As for a punishment for Walsh - make
him room with John Nelson in Ireland, his cheesy feet are rank
|
Bertie:
Just found out Scott Murray got a 3 week ban for his sins, something not
right there you'd think, if he had kicked the guys head then the ban would be
more severe surely, think they're trying to cover up Mr Walsh's
mistake!!!!
As for Jonathon Davies knowing nowt about the forwards, of course he doesn't,
we backs know nowt about what the forwards do (some of us know very little
about what the rest of the team do but lets not go into that one!!)
|
PC:
Bertie, by saying 'we backs' you are implying that you are, or ever were,
a rugby player.
No offence like, I just thought I'd mention it.
Crap news for Scott Murray and Scotland indeed.
Any thoughts on who should fill his slot for the England game? A lot of talk
about bringing Hines back in but whats wrong with Mcleod? He seems pretty
decent to me!
|
Calum:
Macleod is good enough, they could even play White there and bring Petrie
in to back row
|
ss:
Don't alter the back row - it's the best in the Championship. Bring in
Scott McLeod.
|
Bertie:
Fair comment PC, I'll re-phrase that one, we people that loitered about in
the backs pretending to be rugby players. Now to pretend I know anything
about rugby - I agree that the back-row has to stay as it is, White is great
there and more use to us!
|
I've seen Bertie play:
PC your comment about Bertie I hope is wholly lighthearted! Bertie would
train, play the games wherever they were, he never gave up even though the
abuse he got he could have.
He may not have been the best, but he did his best.
|
PC:
Of course it was lighthearted.
Bertie was as committed as anyone when he was training and playing and really
enthusiastic too.
It was just a bit of banter my friend

I don't like to rely on another teams misfortune to aid our campaign but it

Having just been defeated at strathendricks paddy field, I must mention
the star of the game, veteran cashus who not only worked like a trooper for
80 minutes but also cajoled the entire team relentlessly. I am in awe of the
man himself, a real pleaure and a treat to watch and play with. May you
continue for a long time yet cashus, a true inspiration to all us mere
mortals. To watch him trudge off the rice plantation at the end of eighty
minutes, head to toe in sheeeeit, you knew he had given his all. BIG HAND FOR
CASHUS
sick2thebackteeth:
Yes Cashus might be the wrong side of 50 but he could lend some of the 1st
team a bit of his big heart as they are truely lacking in that department and
should be ashamed to pull on the black & gold and perform in the manner
of yesterdays defeat, no heart litte skill & some no hopers to
boot.
|
Andy White:
sick3dabackteeth, im disgusted by ur comments about lack of heart in the
first team. us players are puttin in a big effort in training and then it
doesnt come off on a match day. this is demoralisin enough without sum coward
slaging us of and not even giving us your name. yes some performances
including saturday have been disapointing but if u look at the team which has
been playing recently you will notice there is a number of young players in
the team. now if you would give the team a bit of a chance they will improve.
it may take time but in a couple of years if not the end of this season you
will see a very very good annan side!
|
Don Barty:
Well said Andy. Comments like the above are completely unnecessary. Having
watched the video of Saturday's game, I still can't believe that we did not
win it by 15/20 points. The pressure was there - it just did not materialise
into points. The very last thing we need at the moment are cheap and nasty
comments like the above. If the authopr would like to contact me, I would be
delighted to have a discussion with him!
|
ss:
Don, you're spot on! The guys need every encouragement they can get.
Whoever wrote the nasty comments above should be drummed out of the Club if
his identity was revealed.
|
Shamus o'Namus:
What chance of success if we were all single minded, single cellular
organisms like sick2thebackteeth. You're entitled to your opinion,
absolutely, but this sounds more like what yon wee jerry with the 'tache and
wonky side parting would blurt out just prior to his unsuccessful european
tour. The lads are training hard and perhaps need some encouragement rather
than a constant slating week in, week out. They also need a wee bit o luck,
which they dont seem to have at the moment, but it will come. They are a good
bunch o lads who work hard and hopefully they will reap the benefits sooner
rather than later, but lets encourage and support and keep up their morale,
instead of the indignity Keep up the pressure lads!!!
|
B.G:
fair fair what andy w said about the 1st team putting it in at training
but what is going on with 2nd team 3 lost in a row it seems now that a lot of
them are not training thinking the league was easy. Well i looked at the team
on sat and since they never had Staurt, bob, belly or lec and these guys do
train is seems they rely on these guys to do all the work but it was up to
cash yet again to give it 100%
|
Broon:
BG, either you are Alan Robertson or Neil Chalmers because they were the
only two having a look at the 2nds on Saturday. It is true that we should
have won on Saturday and that giving away soft tries is not good. Suggesting
that it was down purely to Cash is ridiculous. There were good performances
from Young Moff, Garbage, Tam and Dougie Mackay in the forwards. Andrew
Jancey played well and is an excellent prospect for the future. Are you a
player, or just another one that opens their mouth and lets their belly
rumble from the touchline?
|
Annan Fan:
The guy didnt say he was at the game - just that he looked at the team.
Alan always seems to go under the name of Alan. and has Chalmers got access
to the net yet???
|
Lou Smorrals:
Never said that cashus was the only one playing well on saturday, but was
noticeable for the remarkable effort that he put in. The younger lads effort
was noticed very much, but their glory years are still very much in front of
them, whereas cashus can only play for so much longer,[years yet I hope]and
is in his twilight years as far as his game is concerned.
|
Broon:
I agree with you Lou - long may he continue. He has been likened in the
past to El Cid. Perhaps we should call him El Cash! As for the young ones,
son of Cash put in the best tackle of the day. Daddy Cash had tears of pride
by the time we left Moffat.
|
Bertie:
It's good to see as many young names in the teams! Seems like Andrew
Jancey is another star in the making as well, hearing nothing but good things
about him! The future's bright for sure for Annan! Who know's, one day we
might see Bruno in the 1sts - just stick in young fella and you'll make it!
:-)
|
Broon:
Bertie, the last time I played for the 1sts was either 90 or 91, I was old
then! This is now the winter (early) of my playing days - I just don't know
how long the winter is going to be. I appreciate your thoughts, but might
suggest that you have more chance of playing for the 1sts than me!

does anyone fancy having a match on a fri night some 6 nations
weekend. We could make it an over 30s vs an under 30s. It would be a good
laugh and we can just get seshed after the game in the club!!!
Broon:
Why not mix it up with over 30 forwards, under 30 backs against under 30
forwards and over 30 backs. Got to give the youngsters a chance
Billys.
|
belly:
yeah i will be up for it!! Not a bad idea broon but how many over 30 backs
do you know? i can only think of 4 babe, andy render, rob graham, and willy
harrison. You could add hairy but will be man enough to be up for it?
|
Pud:
A game, so you mean 15 a side- thats 30 people!! It would be great to see
the same 30 people at training would it not? Or am I just being silly?
|
Broon:
What about Barry Graham and you, you used to play on the wing and at least
you'd get a full game - that makes 7 as I'm certain Hairy is more than man
enough, not sure he'll be impressed by you suggesting that his masculinity is
in question though!
|
billy:
Broon i think it would be too much for barry playing against under 30s he
knows he would look bad.We could have the colts in our team for the pace. That
is if the under 30s feel its a threat!!!
|
Broon:
Yeh Billy you're probably right, the years haven't been kind to Barry. He
could attempt to prove us wrong but I suppose him being nearly 50 it might be
too late.
|
Bertie:
Sounds like a gauntlet being thrown down there Barry, it'd be rude not to
accept! Good idea for a game though it's got to be the under 30's v over 30s
though - we did a coaches v colts one a few years ago and it was a great
success! (Only cause the coaches won!!)
|
solway sam:
if this game does go to plan how about we try to raise some money for a
local charity by trying to get a signed rugby jersey and have a collection
round the ground when the game is on! It just i was up watching the tartan
army vs the over 35s and they raised a lot of money by doing this.It will
give something back to the community! Maybe billy will sponsor the over 30s
and joe will sponsor the under 30s!! what 10 pence joe
|
Broon:
Bertie, you have a penchant for stating the obvious! Why not join in the
banter rather than pulling the plug on what could have been a long running
saga.
Mixed teams would be fairer with no clear advantage to either side - it
should also make for a better game.
|
Daddy Minto:
Good idea about the pre-6 Nations game. It has been suggested before but
never happened. If it is organised then add my name to the list of
players.
|
Observer on the touchline:
Watched the 1st team yesterday - there only was 3 over 30's in the team -
not sure about this over against under 30's like - could be a bit unbalanced!
Lets get a list of players who want to play then pick the teams from there!
(Billy and Barry should be captains!) Lets get Onny back on the pitch
too!
|
belly:
hey mr observer if we did that then it would just be 2 annan teams against
each other. i think it would be better to play to play as it is. The reason
why is the under 30s will have pace while the over 30s will have the
experience!! it will just be a bit of fun!!
So who is going to take control of this idea then?
|
Broon:
Belly, I thought the idea was to have 2 Annan teams against each other!
It's just the mix that needs to be decided and whether or not we play the U19
scrummage rules - more interesting if we didn't!

Just for the record - the Cash conversion on Saturday against Carlisle -
now called the Cash Converter apparently was from a good distance out and
probably at about 45 degrees or so - pretty amazing sight I can tell you! The
run up took a bit of time though - the opposition just about stopped the ball
taking off! Andrew Jancey played well! Looking good lads! So where did Cash
and Babe get their nicknames from then?
David's brother Richard:
Bertie, if you check out his tattoos you will see CASHUS, ask him why.
Also, Cash had another nickname - can anyone remember it?
As for Babe, surely it's because he used to look very young , you ever seen
his attempts at beard growing.

Well done boys solid performance all round if some of the backs hadn't

I thought Dell played well when he came on good hands for andys try and some
good driving play throughout if thats you half fit dell I would like to see
you fully fit you would be awesome

Good win indeed, however the highlight of the game is Andy Render scoring

Broon:
Big well done to the 1sts - better late than never. Keep the faith.
|
backs fan:
onny- i disagree with you once again. the backs dont get enough of the
ball and looked dangerous when they did. wins r what we need if a bonus point
comes along then hey its a bonus!
|
onny thats my name:
Reveal your name backs fan or forever hold your piece.
The point I was making was this there were plenty opportunities especially in
the second half when a simple draw and pass would have put players in for a
score remember its a team game this could be the differance between wining
and losing.
Dell and Billys managed it in the first half to put andy in I rest my
case.
|
Hic!:
Onny you're right it is far better to be wining than losing. A nice bottle
of merlot will do for me.

Best Nicknames
It's time to lighten the tone. Christmas and all that pish!
So I was looking through the photos on the site and it got me thinking that
everyone used to have a nickname- may'be they still do?
Anyway here are a few of my favourites - can you tell me who they are? why
they got them? and add some of your own.
Rigsby
Milkfloat
Howser
Watery
Bubbles Groper
Duck Bum
Whisper
And a quiz question to finish
Which ex player used to push an imaginary wheelbarrow around the pitch during
a game?
Bertie:
Milkfloat was John Deakin - something to do with only having one speed.
Howser - Douglas "Free Fall" Paul, cant remember why. Whisper was
the noisy Pete Armstong! Duck Bum - I'm sure that was one of the Graham
brothers nick name in a tour programme - something to do with his
overwhelming generosity! As for the imaginary wheelbarrow - I know big Kieron
has a running style that looks like that at times but he still plays!
|
Bob:
Can you tell us neil, where did the nickname 'hairy' start?
Peeheed is my favourite nickname
|
AR:
Rigsby was BooBoo I think due to his landlord tendencies, Howser after
Doogie Howser MD - the child doctor/genius (Doogie Paul and his scores of A
grades), Bubbles was Stevie Carr after his cgat up technique and the
wheelbarrow man is our own tour rep Onny, last seen doing laps of a ruck at
GHK! Other good ones are The Lip, Startled, Gadget and C.O.A
|
Big Stuff:
Rigsby is in fact Taggart and it came about from his fatigued stance at
lineouts when he placed his hands on his kidneys a la (as Swan would say!)
Rigsby
|
Big Stuff:
Watery is of course Scissor Hands and originates from an unfortunate
incontinence incident during Post match celebrations at our very first
National league game v RAF Kinloss.
I am however puzzled as to how "Clanny" came about his nickname and
I wouldnt even begin to contemplate the origins of "PC"
|
NIREX:
Hairy, things must be pretty quiet on that night shift then!
|
Hairy:
I wasn't at work I'm off 'till Boxing Day. ho ho ho
Bob; the origins of my nickname are lost inthe sands of time.
|
Hairy:
a la Dean Richards I can picture him saying it now Big Stuff and doing the
actions Class
|
Bertie:
Who was Scissor Hands Big Stuff? I know there are a number of contenders
but can't remember who the original was!
|
fan no 1:
stu was the scissor hand bertie mind you i think we should call the other
stuart (wyllie) it now he seem to drop a lot of passes these days
|
Onny who else:
Mmm Big stuff now how did that name come about?
Maybe his mum used to stuff him with copious amounts of food and drink?
Or maybe he started life in a puppeteer's shop you know like Pinochio and the
puppeteer got carried away with the stuffing you know where i'm coming from?
answers on a posycard please.
|
Curious:
So how did you get your nickname then Onny?
How did the name chocolate meltdown come about?
How did rio get his name( i heard it was something do with his time in
Brazil)
how come Barry graham not got a nickname in the club?
|
Not a watcher - honest!:
Barry Graham is known as Tiddler - you ever been in the showers with him
you'd know why!
|
Bertie:
Still a few answers missing here - who was The Lip and has Startleds
nickname got origins on the rugby pitch or has he really been caught in a
cars headlights! Gadget was one of the Buckley brothers was it not! Where did
Daddy Minto get the nickname Tosh that sometimes appears?! Going further back
in time - where does Dicey's nickname come from?
|
onny who else:
while at primary school someone called me Johnny onny and the name stuck
me finks it was Bug Crawford.
Chocolate was aptly named because he could never get through a game without
the sponge man or Marion coming on,
Billys once ran a book on him and Dougie Pagan throught one season to see who
would melt the most as they both suffered from stage fright.
|
Broon:
Bertie, Startled is short for "Startled Rabbit" which is how he
looked when he ran - one of the many names gifted by Cash.

The comments are getting a bit narky which is predictable when the first team

Kiwis..... If the firsts can get a win on Saturday then it'll change ...the

|
smith:
Minto shock news. We did win, Muff did get a women and yes the beer tasted
better
|
Daddy Minto:
Superb! No more primary 7 stuff. Finally the hobbits are revolting.
Billy told me that Billy was the difference - I'm sure Billy's right but I
think Mrs Hogg is the answer.
Are the post-match games organised for the Dumfries & Stewartry matches?
Nellie & Jason V were the stars last year.

It is an interesting point Pud. Don't think players were as fit 20years
ago but people like Scott Wylie, Chris Lennon, A young Neil Halliday, Santa
& P Minto regularly turned out for the 2's because big guys like Smy,
Booboo, Scott Bonner,Jevs & Sean Buckley were in the 1's. Would tend to
agree that most of those guys would be in the 1's now. Not to mention backs
like Dougie Pagan, hairy & Deck Adams
Annanite:
Sounds like a good old case of 'you can only piss with the cock you've
got'.
|
Pud:
Fair enough, looking at it like that is makes the scary point of how small
we are! Not only that but how few players we have to pick from. Not enough
guys prepared to train, play at a decent level, can't understand it myself.
I'm just not a fan of the whole "in my day" nonsense, I get enough
of that from my dad!!!

Too many penalties lost the game this week lads. Why are we giving so
many away? Inexperience? Laziness? 2 people in the sin bin- not good
enough.
Stick in though, you have got it in you, the wins will come. Ref didnt help
either I suppose.
annan fan no 1:
unlucky yesterday lads both teams.I hear the 1st half of the 2nd was the
worst this season, but in fair due i also hear 3 forward had to go in the
backs do fair credit boys.As for the 1st i think the ref did not help matters
but just stick in lads
|
Annan fan no.2:
We will always struggle when we are carrying 3 or four forwards and a
couple of backs. The stansard of Div.1 rugby is so poor 20 yrs ago our 2nds
could have won it. We need to get harder players in and we need to get
fitter/bigger tho you can see the difference Smithy has made. Application by
the players could keep us up but I don't see it happening.
|
Pud:
Good possitive stuff Annan Fan no.2. Yeah I'm sure the 2nd team of 20
years were far better than us!Rose tinted glasses me thinks. However if we
put as much effort into training as some people put into writing rubbish we'd
be in prem 1 before you could say- "it wasn't like that in my
day"
|
Wish I could still play:
The game was much more physical 20 years ago. It's faster now and skill
levels are generally better. No doubt that players were harder though - they
had to be. Current crop couldn't live with teams from that era. There are no
rose tinted glasses required - it's a fact.
You lot play well but seem to lose the plot and games you should win. Where
you are now is a legacy of where we were - make us proud again - you can do
it.
|
AR:
A legacy - what sh*te - the current team is competitive in the league at
the moment, very few games have been lost by huge margins but the breaks have
not been going their way, losing is a habit and as soon as it is broken there
is still a chance for the team, come on lads lets give Dalziel a
beating
|
Pud:
Wish you were still playing- Could be the naswer to our problmes eh? I
watched a lot of last season from the side lines and admittedly it didn't
always look so I think it is hard to judge. I'm sure if you could go back and
watch yourself 20 years ago you would get a shock and realise that maybe you
weren't that great!
Legacy, harder 20 years ago etc- I just don't buy it. We'll keep plugging
away and the wins WILL come

Is that dyslexic for Bob S?
|
Freddy Fingerford:
Bob Currie plays for Aberdeen now. I know its a shame but we'll just have
to live with it Annan fan
|
Bertie:
But Bob 'Shag' Copeland plays for Annan 2nds, granted not many people see
him coz he's a bit on the fast side but I'd guess that's who Annan Fan
means!!
|
Shag Fan:
What do you mean by fast Bertie? I trust you're not suggesting that the
Shagster abuses the affections of young ladies!
|
Bertie:
Very dim Shag Fan! Have you seen him play, he can run very quickly indeed
- so fast you can't see him (either that or his opposite number is usually
sleeping!)
|
Enraged Shag Fan:
Now then Bertie, accusations of dimness! It is evident that you have
failed to properly understand that which was written. Did you attend
school?
|
Bertie:
My apologies, no offence meant! Just wanted to clarify it was to do with
his skills on the pitch!

I've overheard some banter in the clubhouse this season about someone
doing a running total of league and cup appearances - is this true and if so
can the details be put on line? Tam Thorburn must be way up there, I hear he
used to be a winger is this true or just club banter? Goggy must have a few
too as well as Onny.
Don:
Statistics do exist for league and cup appearances since we went into the
National Leagues. They were compiled on the basis of who started the matches
and take no account of substitutions. They will be posted on the web pages
soon.
|
Bertie:
Quote from Only an Excuse a couple of new years ago "Statistics are
like mini skirts, they show you the good bits but keep the best bits
hidden!"

What a good night the race night was for those that made the effort to
show. Would have been nice had a few more members and family had also made
that effort, i'm sure a bit more wedge could have been raised. Well done to
don barty for the commentary and to choc for keeping things going. Also
mention a big up to the large number of young 'uns who turned up and took
most of the prize money too! Look forward to the next event.
lost-my-shirt:
yes big up to Don, Chocco, Bertie and the rest of the helpers and
organisers for an excellent night, the only gripe was on the quality of the
tapes but I guess that is out of the club's control, perhaps it can be
fedback to the company we hire from? One finall request would be to try to
have future events on non-pre-game evenings so that players can be encouraged
and more bar takings made, i had serious gut rot following the mango and
carrot juice!!
