This Season: Saturdays opponents Greenock Wanderers are having a no bad season!

Both the 1st and 2nd XV are in the hunt for their respective league titles and Greenock 1st XV have a trip to Murrayfield on the 27th April when they take on Berwick in the National Shield Final.

In West 1, the race for the title is a 3 horse race between East Kilbride, Allan Glens and Greenock Wanderers. The big match thats left between the top 3 is in 2 weeks time when Greenock Wanders host Allan Glens. The winners of that match, probably, will be the league Champions.

Annan will be trying to have a say in the matter though! After Saturdays match, the teams meet in Greenock on a TBC dateĀ for the return leg (twas supposed to be the 27th April) A match that might be meaningless or the match for Greenock to win the championship!

In the reserve West 2 league, a bonus point win for Greenock 2nd XV would almost certainly mean they are league Champions (barring a 200+ loss in their last match!).

For the Annan 2nd XV, the lads will just be glad for a match after the last few weeks when the 2nd XV squad was 22+ players but the matches were called off. Quite a turnaround for the 2nd XV from the start of the season! Lets just hope for a few more matches next season!

So 2 big matches on Saturday. Both could decide the direction of the respective league championships.

Previous Encounters:

So Annan welcome Greenock Wanderers 1st XV to Annan for the 6th time at a competitive level and for the 11th meeting overall.

The teams first met back in 1995 down at the Everholm, Annan running out convincing winners. It wasn't until 2004 that the teams finally met again at Violetbank

At home, Annan have a decent record versus the Greenock club having only lost the once (in 2004)

Overall Annan have 6 wins to Greenocks 4

Greenock will be going into Saturdays match as big favourites though, having only lost twice this season in all competitions and as mentioned will win the West 1 championship if they win their remaining 4 matches.

For Annan a win would keep up their decent home record v Greenock and would also mean a 6th spot finish for the season (baring Strathendrick beating both Allan Glens and Greenock Wanderers)

So all to play for both teams on Saturday at Violetbank.

Its also free entry for the 3pm KOs and there will be a BBQ and Bar for all supporters

My prediction for the game: A Craig McCann drop goal in the last minute for the win!
