On Sunday at the Everholm on a dry but bitterly cold and windy Violetbank Annan Ladies brought a little sunshine into a disappointing weekend for the Annan club with an eleven try demolition of high flying Division 2 Kirkcaldy.

Kirkcaldy who are lying second in Division 2 came to Annan two players short and paid the price as the home team laid siege to their visitors line from the whistle and virtually never gave up until the final whistle. Although under pressure in the scrums where they lost several strikes against the head the home forwards excelled in the loose. But it was the home backs who had the edge over their Fife counterparts with all but one of the tries coming from that quarter. In the first half centre Babs Watson scored two tries with centre Nicky Riddell and winger Katie Robson adding a further two with Nicky converting two to take the half time score to Annan 24 Kirkcaldy 0.

In the second half it was one-way traffic as the visitors began to wilt under continual Annan pressure. Wing forward and Annan captain Cindy Little ran in the first from the half way line to be followed at regular intervals by scrum half Lyndsey Povall (2), stand off Katrona Rae, centre Babs Watson added another to her first half score with centre Nicky Riddell adding a further two to her first half tally. Nicky added a further three conversions to take her personal total for the match to 25 points. Final score Annan 65 Kirkcaldy 0.

Annan, with this win in the second round, now progress to the third round against the winner of the postponed Dundee University v Berwick tie. The third round fixture is due to be played in a fortnight’s time at Violetbank.
