1ST WINS FOR THE TIGERS
On Sunday 13th October, the development sevens moved to Moffat where an Annan squad competed against teams from the host club Moffat, Newton Stewart, Langholm and Stewartry.
After the previous weeks rain, the conditions were almost perfect for a feast of running rugby from all the teams who participated.
An increase in numbers available for Annan led to more potential for rotation during the competition and reduced the fatigue factor of the full size pitch.
All the Annan boys participated, showing excellent ball handling skills and at times a tenacity in defence. As a result they came away with two wins against both Newton Stewart A and B teams by 3 tries to 2 and 4 tries to 3 and although suffering defeats to Moffat, Stewartry and Langholm they competed well scoring a further 5 tries.
Scores for Annan on the day were Euan Waugh 3 tries, Jake Lamont 3 tries, Jack Ogilvie, 4 tries, Josh Whiteside and Robbie Conaghan with one try a piece.
With the Sevens circuit now being put on hold until the end of the season the improvement shown by this young group of Annan players bodes well for the start of the fifteen a side games which are due to start early next month.
Annan Squad:- Euan Waugh, Bradley Davidson, Robbie Davidson, Danny Gracie, Arron Carmichael, Chris McGlasson, Duncan Walker, Bailey Thomson, Reese Dickie, Jake Lamont, Jack Ogilvie, Robbie Conaghan, Josh Whiteside, Kane Marshall.
CHANGES TO TIMES, DATES AND VENUE
From the 9th October the training times for the the Youth Teams will be:
From October all Youth Teams (S1-U16) will train at Galabank on the Back Astro Turf and if there is no game on a Sunday then there will be a training session.
U18 will train alternative Thursdays at Langholm. U18 training will still be at Violetbank (along with the Senior XV's) for the time being.
STARTING TO COME TOGETHER
The D&G Development League Sevens moved to Langholm on Sunday for the second leg of the Autumn Series. After the good weather enjoyed at Newton Stewart the previous week the weather had changed for the worse this week and it was a credit to all the teams from Langholm, Annan, Moffat, Stewartry and Newton Stewart, the way the boys handled in the wet conditions with a steady rain falling well into the day.
Mention should also go to the home club who made everyone welcome with hot soup and drink on offer to supporters and all the boys were well fed after their games.
Although Annan were defeated in all their four games, the boys played well and have shown improvement each week. Scores for Annan were Euan Waugh with 1 try and Arron Carmichael with 3 tries.
Special mention should go to Danny Gracie and Arron Carmichael who came into the team from the P7 age group, both showing they possessed the necessary skills and temperament to compete at this level in its current sevens format. Well done to both.
The Annan Squad comprised of Chris McGlasson, Euan Waugh, Euan Murray, Kane Marshall, Duncan Walker, Josh Whiteside, Robbie Conaghan, Danny Gracie and Arron Carmichael.
TIGERS COME CLOSE
An Annan RFC S1/S2 squad took part at the Newton Stewart Sevens on Sunday 29th September, 2013 against teams from Newton Stewart, Stewartry, Langholm and Moffat.
Although the Annan side were defeated in all their matches, many of the squad gained valuable experience playing at this level for the first time and all played well.
Scorers on the day for Annan were Josh Whiteside, 4 tries and Jake Lamont 1 try.
Special mention to Kane Marshall who played his first competitive rugby matches at this competition.
Annan Squad:- Josh Whiteside, Duncan Walker, Reese Dickie, Robbie Davidson, Robbie Conaghan, Jake Lamont, Chris McGlasson, Bailey Thomas, Fraser Jamieson and Kane Marshall.
