WARRIORS CLASH WITH BROUGHTON AT VIOLETBANK

After last weeks match v Kirkcaldy Ladies was defaulted to the Warriors (as Kirkcaldy could not raise a team) the Annan Warriors became Champions of National 1 for season 2017/18. Not a bad effort for the Warriors in their first year at this level.

The step up to Premiership rugby is a huge one but sure the Warriors will be raring to go. Will announce when preseason training starts in the next few weeks!

The National Division 1 race has been nip and tuck all season between the top 3 teams; Warriors, Glasgow Uni and Broughton Ladies and each team has been at the top during the season. Luckily for Annan if was the Warriors who ended up on top when it was most important!

As for Sundays game, Broughton Ladies are the only team the Warriors have not beaten in the league this season so the Warriors will be up for correcting this!

But I am sure the ladies from Edinburgh will be just as focused at getting the double over the Warriors and some of the bragging rights for the season!

Going to be a great game of rugby at Violetbank on Sunday.

So the Warriors welcome Broughton Ladies to Violetbank for the last league game of the season for the Warriors.

This is the first visit to Violetbank for the Edinburgh based club, The teams have only met once, earlier on in the season, when Broughton Ladies inflicted the only away defeat on the Warriors this season, winning 36-19.

Despite the league being decided, you know both teams will be wanting to win this one!

Players to meet at 12.30 for the 14.00 kick off.

    Warriors Starting XV: TBC

    Warriors Replacements: TBC

U15 HORNETS ON THE ROAD TO MURRAYFIELD

The U15 Hornets are travelling to Edinburgh to take on Lismore U15 Girls in the semi final of the Club Shield.

A win for the Hornets and they are off to Murrayfield for the finals on the 6th May to join their U18 counterparts!. Players to meet with the coaches as organised.

    Kick off: TBC

Best of luck to the Hornets.

    HORNETS MAKE FINAL
    22ND APRIL 2018

    MURRAYFIELD FOR THE U18 HORNETS

The Hornets booked a trip to Murrayfield when they made the Club Shield U18 Final after beating Tayside and Fife Girls on Sunday.

The Hornets scored 7 tries at regular intervals throughout the match and and ran out 47-24 winners.

Great performance from the team who now face Cartha Queens Park in the final on the Murrayfield back pitches on Sunday 6th May. Well done Hornets!

Hornet Tries: Lexie Steel (2), Lily Glendinning, Eve Irving (2), Jenna Patterson and Caitlin Craik (plus 6 conversions)

HUGE GAME FOR THE WARRIORS ON SUNDAY

STOP PRESS: Kirkcaldy Ladies can not raise a team so the Warriors will be awarded the game 28-0. While still waiting for official confirmation, this mean the Warriors are National 1 Champions! Nice!

So this weekend sees the first of two huge home games at Violetbank for the Annan Warriors. On Sunday, the Warriors face Kirkcaldy Ladies (4th) while the following Sunday they face Broughton Ladies (3rd)

The 3 teams still in with a chance of the National 1 title are the Warriors, Glasgow Uni Ladies and Broughton Ladies.

For the Warriors to clinch the championship they need 5 points from the possible 10 on offer. What this means that on Sunday, the Warriors could win the Division if they get a 5 pointer v Kirkcaldy Ladies.

They could also win the division if Broughton Ladies lose to Howe Quins and the Warriors pick up at least 1 bonus point more than Broughton (or Broughton pick up no bonus points)

So the Warriors welcome Kirkcaldy Ladies to Violetbank for the 2nd time and for the 1st time in a league match.

The teams have met 3 times. The first meeting was back in October 2016 in the Sarah Beaney Cup at Violetbank. The Warriors came out on top 12-7. The Warriors then met again in Kirkcaldy in April 2017 in the SRU Bowl. This time Kirkcaldy Ladies were victorious 28-10. The last meeting was this season when the Warriors beat Kirkcaldy on their own patch 31-24. So the Warriors have a played 3 won 2 record. But overall in points scored its 59-53 to Kirkcaldy.

As mentioned, huge game for the Warriors as they try and clinch the National 1 championship. Kirkcaldy Ladies will no doubt be trying their hardest to stop that from happening!

Big ask, big game, big Warriors needed!

Players to meet at 12.30 for the 14.00 kick off.

    Warriors Starting XV: 1 M Parker, 2 L Moffat, 3 L Kyle, 4 Abbie Clark, 5 C Clark, 6 N Barnes, 7 C Barnes, 8 C Aitken (c), 9 N Barlow, 10 M McGeoch, 11 J Stewart, 12 L Vevers, 13 A McWilliam, 14 M Alexander, 15 K Taylor

    Warriors Replacements: 16 Ashley Clark

U18 HORNETS ON THE ROAD TO MURRAYFIELD

The U18 Hornets are travelling to Duffus Park, Howe of Fife Rugby to take on Tayside and Fife U18 Girls in the semi final of the Club Shield. A win for the Hornets and they are off to Murrayfield for the finals on the 6th May. Players to meet with the coaches as organised.

    Kick off: 13.00

Best of luck to the Hornets.

Please Note: The U15 Hornets Club Shield Semi Final is now to be played on Sunday 29th April 2018 v Lismore in Edinburgh.

SEMI FINAL CLASH FOR THE U18 HORNETS

STOP PRESS: The game has been put back to the 22nd April. At Howe of Fifes ground, Kick Off: 13.00

The The U18 Hornets are on the road on Sunday to take on Tayside and Fife Girls U18 team in the Semi Final of the U 18 Club Shield.

A win for the Hornets would mean a trip to Murrayfield for the final!. So a lot to play for.

Players to meet as arranged with the coaches

    SQUAD MATCH FOR THE WARRIORS

STOP PRESS: Alas pitches waterlogged so game has been cancelled.

So after the last set of results in National Division 1, the Warriors need to pick up 5 points from their 2 remaining league games (v Kirkcaldy and Broughton Ladies) to be confirmed champions of National 1.

Before they take on Kirkcaldy Ladies 22nd April (and a chance to clinch the title), the Warriors will be hosting Biggar Ladies for a squad match.

Biggar Ladies are a new senior team who currently play in the Development league.

Biggar Girls though have been playing rugby at Biggar for years now, and this is the logical step up for at Biggar.

So the Warriors welcome Biggar Ladies to Violetbank for the first time.

The teams met back in October when they met for the first time at Biggar for Biggar Ladies debut 15 a side game.

Since then Biggar Ladies have played a few development games and have recorded some decent wins.

Should be a good experience for both teams and a chance for the Warriors to play some newer players

Players to meet at 12.30 for the 14.00 kick off.

    Warriors Squad: L Kyle, J Dalgliesh, L Moffat, N Barnes, C Clark , C Barnes (c), A McWilliam, N Barlow, M McGeoch, M Alexander, R Armstrong, L Vevers, J Stewart, G Young , K Taylor

    Replacements: N/A

    HORNETS WIN IN A THRILLER
    8TH APRIL 2018

    ROAD TO MURRAYFIELD CONTINUES

The U15 Hornets won 36 v 34 in a great game of rugby up in Edinburgh v Murrayfield Wanderers Girls.

The Hornets led for much of the first half but two late tries made it 19-19 at half time. The Hornets tries coming from a double from I Cooper and one from J Patterson. A Notmann with 2 conversions.

To Hornets took the lead again at the start of the second thats to a E Henderson try but Murrayfield hit back with 2 tries to take a 29-24 lead with 13 to go.

However with 5 to go I Patterson scored her second to tie things up....

But Wanderers retook the lead with 3 to go...all over?

Nope! - I Cooper score her hat-trick with 60 seconds left and the boot of A Notman made it 36-34 to the Hornets. Could they hang on?

    Yup!

Well played Hornets who now enter the semi final stage of the Club Shield. Draw to take place.

ITS A WIN FOR THE WARRIORS
    8TH APRIL 2018

SHIELD DUTY FOR THE U15 HORNETS

Only the U15 Hornets in action this Sunday as they travel to Edinburgh to take on Murrayfield Wanderers Girls in a Quarter Final Club Shield game.

Players to meet as planned with the coaches.

Best of luck to the Hornets.

ITS A WIN FOR THE WARRIORS
    25TH MARCH 2018

    COMEBACK WIN FOR THE WARRIORS

The Warriors took the the field at Violetbank, knowing this was the first of 3 home league games that would determine the fate of the National 1 Championship.

Their opponents were old friends and rivals Howe Harlequins. Howe won National 2 last year and came up with the Warriors but struggled in the early part of the season. However their form of late had been decent with 3 wins from 4, so the Warriors knew they would have to be on the top of their game to get a result from the match up.

The kick off was not until 2.20pm as the referee had been delayed.

In the first quarter there was no scoring as both teams defences snuffed out the attacking options of their opponents. This was also the story of the second quarter and it ended 0-0 at half time.

Both teams knew that one moment of brilliance could be enough to separate the teams. The Annan supporters in attendance were hoping it would be from a Warrior!

Alas it was Howe who took the initiative and 2 quick tries at the start of the half made it 10-0 and things were looking bleak for the Warriors.

The Warriors needed to score next to get back into the game and earn themselves at least a bonus point. And scrum half Nicole Barlow duly delivered as on the 57th minute, Nicole crossed the whitewash and it was 10-5. This was Nicoles 4th try of the season.

So as the game entered the last quarter, it was now anyones game.

And to the delight of the home support, on the 64th minute, the Warriors scored again thanks to a Abbie Clark try and a Mal McGeoch conversion. 12-10 and 16 or so to go.

Nervy times and Howe had chances but it was the Warriors who scored next with about 6 to go thanks to a Mal McGeoch try to take it to 17-10!

Could the Warriors get another try and get a perhaps crucial bonus point or would Howe hit back and perhaps get a draw or even win? - Stay tuned!

But who else but try machine Jane Stewart who popped up with a few minutes to go to score her 22nd try of the season to take the score to 22-10. And the Warriors had their try bonus point.

Howe had the last word though with their 3rd try right at the death. Full time: 22-15 to the Warriors.

What a result! The Warriors now move 11 points clear of Broughton and Glasgow (although they have played a game more).

Edit: Turns out Glasgow took on Garioch today and lost! Warriors are 10 points clear for Glasgow (2 games left) and 11 points clear of Broughton (3 games left)

With two games to go, the Warriors now know they need 5 points from their remaining 2 games. The bonus point try at the end meaning one win from the last two game is possibly all that is required.

The Warriors next league game is against Kirkcaldy Ladies at Violetbank on the 22nd April. Your support would be most welcome! They also have a friendly v Biggar Ladies on the 15th April also at Violetbank.

HORNETS OUT OF THE CLUB CUP

On the road, both the U15 and U18 Hornets were knocked out of the Club Cup by Howe and Ayr respectively.

In a keenly contested cup tie against Howe of Fife U15 girls, the U15 Hornets lost 48-12. The Hornets scoring 2 tries.

    Match Report

In the U18's game, the U18 Hornets took the lead early in the first half thanks to tries from Elli Kilpatrick and Lexie Steele but as the half wore on, Ayr started to dominated and it was 39-10 at half time.

The U18 Hornets, like the first half, scored 2 quick tries at the start of the second through Eve Irvine and Jenna Patterson. Caitlin Craik with the conversion to take it to 39-22 . Ayr scored a couple more tries while the Hornets hit back though another Caitlin Craik try and conversion.

The game ended 54-29 to Ayr.

From Coach Parky - "Great effort from the girls, especially to score 5 tries away from home. More game time needed so going into the Mirage conference will be a massive boost"

Well played the Hornets anyway and onto the next match!

    HOME GAME FOR THE WARRIORS
    25TH MARCH 2018

BIG GAME FOR THE WARRIORS ON SUNDAY

Last Sunday was a wipe out last weekend and no ties were played, so its as you were in National One

To recap: The 3 teams in contention all have 3 games left:

Warriors: Home to Howe 'Quins, Home to Kirkcaldy, Home to Broughton
Broughton: Home to Glasgow Uni, Away to Howe 'Quins, Away to Warriors
Glasgow Uni: Away to Broughton, Home to Garioch, Away to Melrose

To go all Spandau Ballet on you and cut a long short, the Warriors need to pick up 10 points (from a possible 15) to become National 1 league champions at the first time of asking!

This weekend its Warriors v Howe and possibly Broughton v Glasgow.

Best result in the Broughton v Glasgow game for the Warriors in my opinion would be an unlikely low scoring draw - but you never know!

For the Warriors, they can lose one game and still be champions, but lets not go down that route. Huge game on Sunday against our old friend and rival Howe Harlequins.

So the Warriors welcome Howe Harlequin's Ladies to Violetbank for the 3rd time and for our 7th match at a competitive level.

The teams met earlier in the season when the Warriors ran out 24-20 winners in a thriller.

The teams first met back in October 2015 when the Warriors also won.

However the 5 matches between the 2 wins were all Howe Harlequins with 5 win from 5. And at the last meeting at Violetbank last season, Howe of course won that game 15-5.

So a massive game at Violetbank on Sunday. Howe will be wanting to continue their decent run of form while we all know what the Warriors need to do!

Big ask, big game, big Warriors needed!

Players to meet at 12.30 for the 14.00 kick off.

    Warriors Starting 15 XV: 1 M Parker, 2 L Kyle, 3 C Aitken (c), 4 C Clark, 5 Abbie Clark, 6 N Barnes, 7 N Dobie, 8 C Barnes, 9 N Barlow, 10 M McGeoch, 11 R Armstrong, 12 L Vevers, 13 J Stewart, 14 M Alexander, 15 K Taylor.

    Warriors Replacements: 16 Ashley Clark, 17 E Jardine, 18 J Park. 19 S Howlett, 20 A McWilliam

THE HORNETS FINALLY (HOPEFULLY) START THEIR CUP MATCHES

After numerous postponements due to the weather, on Sunday the U15 and U18 Hornets are both on the road in the U15 and U18 Club Cup

The U15 Hornets are away to Howe of Fife while the U18 Hornets are off to Ayr. Both games kick off at 12.30.

    Best of luck Hornets.

    BIG GAMES FOR THE TEAMS
    17TH/18TH MARCH 2018

START OF A RUN OF 3 HOME GAMES FOR THE WARRIORS ON SUNDAY

STOP PRESS: Alas, the game has been POSTPONED. As Violetbank is unplayable due to the snow.

The Warriors welcome Kirkcaldy Ladies to Violetbank for the 2nd time and for their 4th match at a competitive level. The teams met earlier in the season when the Warriors ran out 31-24 winners in a thriller.

That was the first league meeting between the two teams as the previous meeting had been in Cup/Bowl competitions the previous year. With the Warriors winning the Cup match at Violetbank while Kirkcaldy won the Bowl game in Fife.

Its going to be a close game, with 4th placed Kirkcaldy wanting to end the latter part of the season on a high to take into next season. Their last few games have been close affairs, and only 3 games ago they beat Broughton Ladies 10-5 at Broughton. Their last 2 games have been 13-12 and 6-3 loses.

For the Warriors, what more need to be said - a win on Sunday and they could clinch the title next week v old rivals Howe Harlequins!

Big ask, big game, big Warriors needed!

Players to meet at 12.30 for the 14.00 kick off.

    Starting XV: 1 M Parker, 2 L Kyle, 3 J Dalgliesh, 4 S Howlett, 5 Abbie Clark, 6 C Clark, 7 N Dobie, 8 C Aitken (c), 9 N Barlow, 10 M McGeoch, 11 R Armstrong, 12 L Vevers, 13 J Stewart, 14 M Alexander, 15 K Taylor.

    Replacements: 16 L Moffat, 17 A McWilliam, 18 J Park

HORNETS AWAY TO HOWE OF FIFE ON SATURDAY

Hopefully the U15 Hornets finally get another game this season when they are off to Howe Of Fife in the Cup on the Saturday.

At the time of writing the kick off time is a TBC. Please keep an eye online for confirmation of the kick off.

Best of luck to the teams this weekend.

    WARRIORS WIN AGAIN
    11TH MARCH 2018

THE WARRIORS KEEP UP THEIR CHAMPIONSHIP AMBITIONS

After a 3 week break from league action, the Warriors took to the Greenock pitch for their last away game of the league season.

Since their last league game, the Warriors have been up and down! Losing in the Cup to Watsonians Ladies but winning the Annandale and Eskdale Sports Awards 2017 Team of the Year!

Anyway the Award Winning Warriors have a played 4 won 3 away record this season and were looking to extend this record going and go into the final run of 3 home games still top of National Division 1.

It was a physical start with both teams committed to the cause.

On the 8th minute though, Jane Stewart with her first in 2 games to end her barren patch, crossed the Greenock whitewash. Mal with the conversion and it was 7-0 to the Warriors.

For the next 30 minutes, the match continued in a physical manner with both teams putting in big hits.

Both teams had chances in the half but it ended 7-0 to the Warriors. Big second half effort ahead!

And what a start to the 2nd half for the Warriors as the flyer Ms Stewart, popped up again for her 2nd in the game. Jane has now scored 2 tries in her last 2 games. Mal again with the conversion.

Jane is a hard running and extremely powerful attacking option and once again it was on display. The Warriors once again working together as one to get the team another great try. 12 Warriors have now scored for the Warriors this season and counting! ;)

So 14-0 to the Warriors but still plenty to play for and the old next score was going to be a big one for either team!

Similar to the first half, scoring chances were there for both teams but none taken.

And it wasnt until about 10 to go that Captain Caroline popped up to score her 3rd of the season to take it to 21-0. 100% SureShot Mal with the conversion.

Could the Warriors score one final try and get a bonus point?

    No.

Greenock's defence held firm and in the final seconds it was Greenock who had the last say with an unconverted try.

Full Time: 21-5 to the Warriors. Nice!

So the Warriors remain at the top of the table and are 6 points clear of 2nd and 3rd place Broughton and Glasgow Uni Ladies whose match was postponed today. All 3 teams have 3 games to play.

The Warriors now host Kirkcaldy Ladies at Violetbank next Sunday in another crucial National 1 match. The Warriors could extend their lead to 10 or 11 points as Broughton and Glasgow Uni Ladies are not playing. Kick Off: 14.00.

Kirkcaldy, currently in 4th, are a tough tough team though, so the Warriors will need to be at the top of their game.

    TEAM OF THE YEAR 2017
    ANNANDALE AND ESKDALE SPORT AWARDS
    9TH MARCH 2018

ANNAN WARRIORS ARE TEAM OF THE YEAR

TOP OF THE LEAGUE WARRIORS TRY TO REMAIN ON TOP
    11TH MARCH 2018

THE WARRIORS TRAVEL TO GREENOCK WANDERERS

So after a weeks break thank to the weather, its as you are at the top of National 1. The Warriors travel to Greenock in a game they have to win to keep up their aspirations for the National 1 title.

League positions would seem to suggest that the Warriors should be too good for the Wanderers, but the last time the Warriors lost in the league it was against the Greenock Ladies. Which was also the Wanderers Ladies last win.

The Warriors will need to be at the top of their game to come away with the win against Greenock. Big game for both teams.

The Warriors travel to Greenock for the 2nd time and for the 5th clash between the 2 teams. The Wanderers are the Warriors bogey team as the black and amber have yet to win against the Renfrewshire side and have a played 4 lost 4 record.

Annan need to keep up the pressure at the top and a win would mean the Warriors are one step closer to sealing the National 1 title.

With 2nd and 3rd in the league meeting on Sunday as well a win would put the Warriors 5 points clear, with a game in hand and just 3 games to go. No pressure then. No pressure at all!

Players to meet at Bank St for 9.45am

Forwards from: M Parker, L Kyle, C Aitken (c), Ashley Clark, E Jardine, Abbie Clark, C Clark, J Park, S Howlett, N Barnes, N Dobie and C Barnes

    Backs from: J Stewart, N Barlow, L Vevers, M McGeoch, M Alexander, R Armstrong, K Taylor, A McWilliam and A McCall

    U18 HORNETS ON THE ROAD

While on Sunday the U18 Hornets are off to Ayr for the start of their Cup Campaign.

    Kick Off: TBC

Best of luck to the Hornets

    THE BIG ONE AT VIOLETBANK
    4TH MARCH 2018

    1ST v 2ND AT VIOLETBANK

STOP PRESS: Alas, the game has been POSTPONED. As Violetbank is unplayable due to the snow.

So after last Sundays distraction of the Cup - its back to the main event of the season - the race for the National Division 1 Championship!

With only 4 games left for the Warriors, every game is crucial but Sundays game is perhaps the biggest game of the season (ever?) as they host 2nd placed Broughton Ladies at Violetbank.

A win for the Warriors and they would be one step closer to the title. Broughton Ladies are currently 2 points behind and have played an extra game.

Glasgow Uni Ladies in 3rd spot (on the same number of points and games played as Broughton Ladies) can still nab top spot but with games running out and the 2 teams meeting next week only 1 of these teams can probably challenge the Warriors. So a huge game at Violetbank!

So the Warriors welcome Broughton Ladies to Violetbank for the first time. The teams met back in November when the Edinburgh team ran out comfortable winners 36-19

Both teams will know how crucial this game is for influencing where the Championship may end up this season. Nerves of steel and a Warrior spirit needed!

One thing with these two teams this season, you know there will be a number of cracking tries scored!

Players to meet at 12.30 for the 14.00 kick off.

    Warriors XV starting 15: 1 M Parker, 2 L Kyle, 3 C Aitken (c), 4 C Clark, 5 Abbie Clark, 6 N Barnes, 7 N Dobie, 8 C Barnes, 9 N Barlow, 10 M McGeoch, 11 J Stewart, 12 A McCall, 13 A McWilliam, 14 R Armstrong, 15 K Taylor.

    Replacements: 16 Ashley Clark, 17 J Dalgliesh, 18 L Moffat, 19 S Howlett, 20 J Park.

UP FOR THE CUP FOR THE U15 HORNETS

STOP PRESS: Alas, the game has been POSTPONED due to the weather conditions.

On Sunday, the U15 Hornets are on the Cup trail when they travel to Howe of Fife Girls.

KO at time of writing is still to be agreed.

All players to meet as arranged with the coaches.

Best of luck to the Hornets.

WARRIORS GO DOWN TO WATSONIANS LADIES
    25TH FEBRUARY 2018

THE ROAD TO MURRAYFIELD IS OVER

The Annan Warriors took to the Violetbank pitch knowing a win v Premier Watsonians Ladies would be their best result in their 3 year history. And a big big ask!

If things go well in the league, the Watsonians Ladies would be the standard of opposition they would be facing so it was going to be a big indicator on what the Warriors have to do next year.

After a nervy start, Watsonians took the lead after 9 minutes through a penalty.

And not lot long after it was 8-0 as a well worked Watsonians try extended their lead.

For the next 15 minutes though it was nip and tuck as both teams had chances but with about 30 mins gone, the Ladies from Edinburgh extended their lead to 15-0

Game over? This is the Warriors we are talking about and 5 minutes later it was 15-7 thanks to a great Shei Howlett try and a Mal conversion. Game over?.....Game on!

This was Shei's first try for the Warriors in her 3 appearance.

Alas the joy was short lived as Watsonians Ladies scored just a few minutes later to take it to 20-7. And thats how the first half ended.

So the second half started, and the usual, next score was going to be important. Big Warriors effort required.

    And.......

Alas it was for Watsonians Ladies. A converted try and it was 27-7 with about 35 mins to go.

The Warriors do what they have always done though and dug deep and for the next 15 there was no further score but with 20 to go, Watsonians Ladies took to to 32-7 and it was finally game over.

In the last quarter, the Warriors hit back with a Nicole Barlow try. Nicoles 3rd of the season. But another Watsonians Ladies try and conversion and it was 39-12 with about 10 to go.

At the death, Watsonian Ladies scored their final try to end the match 46-12 winners.

So congratulations to Watsonians Ladies who go into the next round v Edinburgh Ladies.

For the Warriors, its back to the main event of the season as they take on 2nd placed Broughton Ladies in the league at Violetbank next Sunday. A win for the Warriors and they would move one step closer to clinching the championship.

Also, for the record, Jane "The Rocket" Stewarts try streak ended today. 28 games and 67 tries. Must be close to a Scottish rugby record you would think!

CUP CLASH FOR THE WARRIORS ON SUNDAY
    25TH FEBRUARY 2018

    PREMIERSHIP WATSONIANS LADIES THE CHALLENGE

So after last Sundays great win over Garioch Ladies, the Warriors take a break from the league campaign and entertain Watsonians Ladies in the Cup at Violetbank.

In most years this would be the biggest game of the season, but with 2nd placed Broughton Ladies at home next weekend in the league its a toss up!

Watsonians Ladies are a Premier league team with the players to match.

Formed in 2001 by a number of players from different clubs around the city, the team played in Premier league for seven years before being relegated in 2013/14. They won National Division 1 last year and are currently plying their trade once again in the Premier league.

In the Cup they were quarter finalists last year, eventually losing to Edinburgh Uni. The team that awaits the winners of this match!

Big game for the Warriors against the highest placed team they have ever played.

So we welcome Watsonians Ladies to Violetbank for the first time.

This might be the first time we have hosted the club from Edinburgh at any level.

The club do have a connection with the Watsonians club though as former president Ronnie Anderson was a member for many years and his sons Michael and Greg went to school there.

Michael played for the Annan 1st XV 61 times and scored 12 times.

Anyway, its a big game for the Warriors and if things go well in the league this season *fingers crossed* then this might not be the only meeting this year between the clubs.

It only gets harder now for the Warriors on the Murrayfield trail, it would be an amazing feat if the Warriors could get into the Quarter Finals but you never know. This is the Warriors we are talking about!

Players to meet at 12.00 for the 13.30 kick off - Note the slightly earlier kick off time

    Warriors XV starting 15: 1 Ashley Clark, 2 L Kyle, 3 C Aitken (c), 4 C Clark, 5 J Park, 6 N Barnes, 7 N Dobie, 8 C Barnes, 9 N Barlow, 10 M McGeoch, 11 L McGoldrick, 12 A McCall, 13 J Stewart, 14 R Armstrong 15 K Taylor

    Replacements: 16 M Parker 17 J Dalgliesh , 18 Abbie Clark, 19 S Howlett, 20 M Alexander

    MIXED FORTUNES FOR THE TEAMS
    18TH FEBRUARY 2018

THE WARRIORS GO TOP OF THE LEAGUE

The Warriors knew that a win today would put them back to the top of National Division 1. So no pressure then!

For the first 15 minutes defences were on top, and all attending knew that it would take a bit of magic to break the deadlock. So as usual up stepped Jane Stewart to cross the whitewash to take it to 5-0.

That was now Jane's 74th try for the Warriors in her 35th appearance. The 28th game in a row Jane had scored at least 1 try in! 64 tries in 28 games if you are counting! Must be close to some Scottish record you would think!

Garioch Ladies are no mugs at this game though and they had numerous chances but the Warriors showed they are not 2nd for a reason and on the half hour mark, up popped Nadine Barnes to score her 3rd try of the season. With Mal succesful with the conversion it was 12-0.

And on the stroke of half time, it was Jane again!, Mal with the conversion and it was 19-0 at half time.

The second half started and was the game safe for the Warriors?

Garioch Ladies are an experienced team and were pushing the Warriors all the way but 5 minutes into the 2nd half, up stepped Abbie Clark for the try bonus point try. 24-0.

    Game over?

It was on the 52nd minute as Chelsea Barnes crossed the try line for her 3rd try of the season to take it to 29-0

And then 58th minute, who else but Jane Stewart completed her hat-trick to take it to 34-0. Mal with the conversion so 36-0

Garioch Ladies were not just here to make up the numbers and with 10 to go they scored to take it to 36-5

The Warriors had the last say and on the srtoke of full time, Jane popped up again for her 4th try to take the final score to 41-5 to the Warriors!

What a performance and the Warriors go back to the top of National 1, pushing Broughton Ladies into 2nd.

The Warriors take a break from league action next week as they host Watsonian Ladies in the Cup next Sunday. Big game!

The following week they then host 2nd placed Broughton Ladies in the league! Bigger game!

    What a couple of weeks!.#MonTheWarriors!

And happy birthday to Lindsey Kyle. You take it easy tonight. Only 2 bottles of Champagne allowed !

THE U18 HORNETS GO DOWN IN THE CUP

It was the U18 Hornets first game of the season and despite putting on amazing performance they went down 52 v 0 to the experienced Hillhead Jordanhill side.

Well played Hornets. All rugby experience is worth doing.

    Onto the next game!

And best of luck to Hillhead Jordanhill in the next round.

3 LADIES TEAMS IN ACTION ON SUNDAY
    18TH FEBRUARY 2018

BIG GAME FOR THE ANNAN WARRIORS

The Warriors welcome Garioch Ladies to Violetbank for the 2nd time and for their 3rd meeting on Sunday.

The last times the teams met at Violetbank back in March 2016, the Aberdeenshire team blew the Warriors away in a clinical display of running rugby, winning 35-5.

This was the 3rd defeat from 4 at Violetbank. Since then though the Warriors have turned things around at Annan and have won 9 from 11 at home, with their 2 defeats being just 5 and 10 point losses.

The teams met again just a few weeks ago when the Warriors travelled to Garioch and came away with a 24-10 win.

So its 1 win apiece, and the stakes are high as a win for the Warriors would take them to the top of the league as current leaders Broughton Ladies are not playing. While for Garioch a win, coupled with their games in hand, a 3rd placed finish is still a decent prospect.

    Big game at Violetbank!

Players to meet at 11.30 for the 13.00 kick off.

    Warriors XV starting 15: 1 M Parker, 2 L Kyle, 3 C Aitken (c), 4 C Clark, 5 J Park, 6 N Barnes, 7 N Dobie, 8 C Barnes, 9 N Barlow, 10 M McGeoch, 11 L McGoldrick , 12 A McCall , 13 J Stewart, 14 L Vevers, 15 K Taylor

    Replacements: 16 Ashley Clark, 17 Abbie Clark, 18 S Howlett, 19 M Alexander, 20 R Armstrong

THE CUP BEGINS FOR THE ANNAN HORNETS

STOP PRESS: Alas, the game has been called OFF as West Lothian can not raise a team.

On Sunday, the U15 and U18 Hornets start the 2018 year with a couple of big Cup games.

At Violetbank, the U15 Hornets host West Lothian Girls in the preliminary round of the cup. Kick Off: 12.30.

While the U18 Hornets travel to Glasgow as they take on last years Cup Runners up Hillhead Jordanhill in the Qualifier round. Kick Off: 12.30

All players to meet as arranged with the coaches.

Best of luck to the Hornets.

    U15 HORNETS SCOTSTOUN BOUND
    10TH FEBRUARY 2018

7'S TOURNAMENT FOR THE U15 HORNETS

On Saturday evening, the U15 Hornets are taking part in a 7 a side tournament prior to the Women's Scotland v France Six Nations Match. Starts 17.00

Players to meet as arranged with their coach.

    Good luck Hornets!

    THE WARRIORS MOVE INTO 2ND
    4TH FEBRUARY 2018

    5 POINTER FOR THE WARRIORS

The Warriors travelled to 2nd place Glasgow Uni Ladies knowing they needed to win to go above the Glasgow team and keep the destination of the title in their own hands.

A loss would mean that with 5 games to go, they would need to rely on other results to go their way. So no pressure then!

The Warriors got off to a flyer though, as with just 9 minutes on the clock they led 7-0 thanks to another Jane Stewart try and a Mal conversion.

That was now Jane's 72nd try for the Warriors in her 34th appearance. The 27th game in a row Jane had scored at least 1 try in! 62 tries in 27 games if you are counting!

From the past 2 encounters, it was a shoe-in that Glasgow would come straight back and it was no surprise when they scored 5 minutes later then again on the 24th minute to take it to 10-7 Glasgow.

And despite numerous chances for both teams, the half ended 10-7 to Glasgow.

So 40 minutes to go and it was anyones game! The Warriors would start the half with 14 as Captain Caroline was yellow carded just before the half ended.

But this is the Warriors we are talking about and 5 minutes into the half, who else, but Jane popped up for her 2nd try of the match and the Warriors were back in front 12-10!

And again, like in the first half, Glasgow turned up the pressure and on the 53rd minute they were back in front with their 3rd try. 15-12.

But the Warriors do what the Warriors always do; hit back and Correy Clark crossed the whitewash just 5 minutes later and with the conversion from Mal good, it was now 19-15 to the Annan Warriors!

It was nip and tuck, the next try could decide the game....and it was....

....the Warriors again, securing the try bonus point, as Nadine Barnes barged over the try line with Mal again with the conversion.

Could the Warriors see out the game. 10 minutes to go?

    YES!

Full time: 26-15 to the Warriors.

    What a game!

And the Warriors move into 2nd spot in the league. The Warriors now enter a run of 5 homes games in the next 6 matches!

4 in the league and 1 in the Cup v Watsonian Ladies.

The first game is in 2 weeks time when they host Garioch Ladies. Still all to play for in the league and Cup!

    'Mon the Warriors!

    WARRIORS OFF TO GLASGOW
    4TH FEBRUARY 2018

    2ND V 3RD CLASH FOR THE WARRIORS

With the Warriors getting the Walkover win v Melrose last Sunday (as Melrose could not raise a team) its as you were at the top of National 1.

Broughton Ladies and Glasgow Uni Ladies both won and it realistically between these 3 teams as who will win the Division, although an undefeated end of season run by any of the next 3 could put them in with a shout.

So its still all up for grabs and each match gets more and more important as we enter the 2nd half of the season.

So the Warriors travel to Glasgow Uni Ladies for the first time and for our 3rd meeting at a competitive level.

The teams met for the first times earlier this season in the league and cup, with back to back games at Annan.

The Warriors won both games but the result in each game was in doubt until the final whistle. Glasgow are the form team in the division, having won 4 games on the trot to the Warriors will need to be on the top of their game if they wish to come back to Annan with the points.

    Warriors Squad: 1 E Jardine 2 A McWilliam 3 C Aitken (c) 4 C Clark 5 J Park 6 N Barnes, 7 N Dobie 8 C Barnes 9 N Barlow 10 M McGeoch 11 R Armstrong 12 L Vevers 13 J Stewart 14 M Alexander 15 K Taylor

Replacements: 16 Ashley Clark 17 J Dalgliesh 18 Abbie Clark

Meet at Clubhouse at 10am for a 2pm KO

    WARRIORS OFF TO MELROSE
    28TH JANUARY 2018

WARRIORS ON THE ROAD TO MELROSE

STOP PRESS: Alas, the game has been called OFF as Melrose can not raise a team.

With last weeks games all being postponed due to the weather, its as you were at the top of the National 1 table.

With between 5 and 7 games left for the top 5 teams, every game is now a must win (with try bonus points if possible) in the race for the Championship.

Sundays game away to Melrose Ladies, on paper, the Warriors should be firm favourites to pick up the win. However, this is a Melrose team who ,despite the odd blip, are getting closer and closer to their first league win of the season.

At home, Melrose have ran other teams in the league very close.

Bar their last home game v Kirkcaldy Ladies, which looks like it was just a bad day at the office, the Melrose team have just lost to league leaders Broughton Ladies 17-36, Greenock Wanderers 12-20 and Howe Harlequins 22-27.

The Warriors will need to be on the top of their game if they want to return to Annan with the 5 points.

So the Annan Warriors travel to Melrose Ladies for the first time and for the second ever meeting between the 2 sides.

The teams met earlier in the season when the Warriors ran out 49-0 winners.

Melrose Ladies have been around for quite a number of years and have produced numerous Scottish Women's internationalists. They are currently in a rebuilding phase and as a result are at the bottom of National 1. With 6 games left for them, they will no doubt wanting to end the second half of the season with at least 1 win under their belts. Lets just hope they dont start on Sunday!

For the Warriors, they need to win to keep up the pressure at the top and keep the momentum going for when they travel to second place Glasgow Uni Ladies the following week.

    Annan Warriors starting XV: 1 Ashley Clark, 2 L Kyle, 3 C Aitken (c), 4 S Howlett, 5 J Park, 6 N Barnes, 7 N Dobie, 8 C Barnes, 9 N Barlow, 10 M McGeoch, 11 J Stewart, 12 A McCall, 13 A McWilliam, 14 M Alexander and 15 K Taylor

    Warriors Replacements: 16 M Parker, 17 C Clark, 18 Abbie Clark, 19 R Armstrong, 20 L Vevers

    HOME GAME FOR THE WARRIORS
    21ST JANUARY 2018

    WARRIORS ENTERTAIN KIRKCALDY LADIES

STOP PRESS: Alas, the game has been called off as all pitches at Violetbank and the Everholm are frozen solid.

So what a start to the new year for the Warriors as the bare 15 Warriors beat Garioch Ladies away with a try bonus to boot! Kirkcaldy also had a great start, thumping Melrose last week 48-0.

As it stands. the National 1 Division could still be won by anyone of perhaps 5 teams.

Kirkcaldy and Greenock in 5th and 4th are probably teams that cant afford to lose any of their remaining games to have a shot.

The top 3 of Broughton, Glasgow Uni and the Warriors have the best chance. 7 points separate the team and with the Warriors having 2 games in hand over leaders Glasgow Uni, and 2nd placed Broughton having 1 game in hand over the leaders, it could get even tighter as the weeks go on.

With between 5 and 7 games to go, its going to be a interesting run in, and its all up for grabs,

So the Warriors welcome Kirkcaldy Ladies to Violetbank for the 2nd time and for a 4th competitive match up.

The first meeting was back in October 2016 in the SRU CUP at Violetbank. The Warriors won that day 12-7. They then met away the same season in the SRU Bowl where Kirkcaldy gained their revenge winning 28-10.

The teams met earlier on this season in the league at Kirkcaldy. The Warriors ran out 31-24 winners in a close tense game.

So the Warriors are 2-1 up in the meetings and am sure will be wanting to extend this to 3-1 come 4pm on Sunday to keep up the pressure on the top 2.

For Kirkcaldy Ladies, a win is a must if they wish to be in the top 2 come the end of the season.

Players to meet at 12.30 for a 14.00 start.

    Warriors starting XV:1 E Jardine, 2 L Kyle, 3 C Aitken (c), 4 S Howlett, 5 J Park, 6 N Barnes, 7 N Dobie, 8 C Barnes, 9 N Barlow, 10 M McGeoch, 11 J Stewart, 12 A McCall, 13 A McWilliam, 14 M Alexander, 15 K Taylor

    Replacements: 16 M Parker, 17 A Clark, 18 C Clark

AMAZING BONUS POINT WIN FOR THE WARRIORS
    14TH JANUARY 2018

WARRIORS SECURE AN AWAY 5 POINTER

The Warriors took to the Garioch pitch after their long journey from Annan. The Warriors had travelled on the Saturday night, so were refreshed and raring to go after a 7 week break since their last game.

Due to injuries and unavailability the Warriors only had the bare 15 players so knew they would have to dig deep to finish the 80 ahead of a full squad of Garioch Ladies.

And the Warriors got off to a flyer when the try shy Jane Stewart scored her first try for the Warriors in 7 weeks! This was Jane's 26th game in a row scoring a try. A streak that goes back to 20th March 2016 and has netted Jane 61 tries. Mal with the conversion.

A few minutes later it was 12-0 when Captain Caroline crashed over for her first try of the season.

For the next 15, both teams had chances but it got better for the Warriors when on the 27 minute mark, Alana McWilliam scored her 5th try of the season.

A great first 30 from the Warriors but just a few minutes later, Garioch Ladies scored to take it to 17-5. There was no further score by half time.

The second half started and the Warriors and their small band of supporters knew they would have to work like they had never worked before as the half wore on and fresh Garioch Ladies were brought on.

But it was another great start for the Warriors as Captain Caroline led from the front to nab her 2nd try of the match (and season). Mal again with the conversion. 24-5 to the Warriors and and the try bonus point secured. Next was to ensure the W in the win column

But Garioch Ladies, as they have shown in their last couple of games, are no push overs and a few moments later it was 24-10 with about 30 to go.

Defences were on top for the next...well 30 minutes and despite some great chances for both teams it ended 24-10 to the mighty Warriors!

So a great result for the Warriors who have a home game v Kirkcaldy Ladies next week at Violetbank.

And the Warriors win meant it was 5 wins from 5 for the 3 senior Annan teams in 2018. Nice start to the year!

    LONG TRIP FOR THE WARRIORS
    14TH JANUARY 2018

    WARRIORS OFF TO GARIOCH

So after the x-mas break, its back to league action for the Warriors on Sunday.

And its one of the longest trips of the season as they travel to Garioch Ladies in Aberdeenshire. A 460 mile round trip.

The Warriors have faltered in their last 2 league games after going 4 games unbeaten to drop down into 4th spot

Garioch Ladies are the reverse and have won their last 2 games after a shaky start to the league.

Its not all doom and gloom for the Warriors as they have 2 games in hand over the top 3 teams and everything is still up for grabs and in their hands.

Garioch Ladies (in 6th) also have games in hand over the teams above them and will be wanting to continue their mini winning run.

So the Warriors travel to Garioch Ladies for the first time and for their 2nd meeting.

The teams met back in March 2016 when the teams met at Violetbank in the league during the Warriors debut season. Garioch ran out 36-5 winners.

For the record, it was Jane Stewart who scored the only Warriors try.

The Warriors have been struggling with injuries at the moment (especially in the forwards) but am sure they will put on a performance that the Warriors are renowned for!

As a result though, as it currently stands, only 15 still Warriors will be travelling to Garioch

Players to meet at Bank Street on Saturday at 6pm.

    Annan Warriors Squad: 1 E Jardine, 2 A McWilliam, 3 C Aitken (c), 4 J Park, 5 S Howlett, 6 N Barnes, 7 N Dobie, 8 C Barnes, 9 N Barlow, 10 M McGeoch, 11 R Armstrong, 12 A McCall, 13 J Stewart, 14 M Alexander, 15 K Taylor

WOMENS AND GIRLS RUGBY DAY AT VIOLETBANK ON SUNDAY

STOP PRESS: All games are OFF. Violetbank is frozen.

So the Warriors take a break from league action and host a development game v Biggar Ladies on Sunday at Violetbank.

The U15 and U18 Hornets are also taking on Biggar Girls on Sunday with the U12 Hornets having a training session and game.

So a feast of ladies rugby on Sunday at Violetbank.

Biggar Ladies are newly formed and are gearing up to enter the National leagues next season. The Biggar Girls teams are some of the most succesful girls teams in Scottish rugby!

So we welcome Biggar Ladies to Violetbank for the first time on Sunday and the Biggar Girls for the second time.

The Ladies teams met last month under the floodlights at Biggar and both teams put on a great performance. The Warriors experience shone through in the end but it will be interesting to see the improvement of the Biggar Ladies team in the return leg.

The U15 and U18 Hornets have played Biggar before at Violetbank back in 2014.

All in all it should be a great advert for women's and girls rugby in SW Scotland. Try and get along if you can.

U12 and U15 Hornets games kick off 12pm, U18 Hornets at 1pm and the Warriors kick off at 2pm

    Warriors starting XV: 1 M Parker, 2 L Kyle, 3 E Jardine, 4 N Barnes, 5 S Howlett, 6 C Barnes, 7 N Dobie, 8 C Aitken (c), 9 A McWilliam, 10 M McGeoch, 11 J Stewart, 12 A McCall , 13 L Vevers , 14 M Alexander, 15 K Taylor

THE WARRIORS GO DOWN TO GREENOCK
    26TH NOVEMBER 2017

    2ND V 3RD CLASH AT VIOLETBANK

Written by a "slightly" hungover Gus (thanks Scotland!)

The teams took to the field knowing that a win could put either team into 1st place in the league (if Broughton Ladies lost to Glasgow Un)

It was 3rd v 2nd and both team were definitely up for this match. The Warriors did not have history on their side though as in the 3 meeting between the teams, the ladies from Greenock had come out on top.

The Warriors had the bulk of the possession in the 1st quarter but some great Greenock defending keep the score to zip zip.

It wasn't until the 32nd minute that the first score of the match occurred. And twas Greenock Ladies that did the business with a well worked try. 5-0 to the Wanderers.

And on the srtoke of half time the Greenock Ladies made it 10-0. All to do for the Warriors on the 2nd half.

So once again the old favourite, the next score being crucial was in effect!

And..........it was.......the Warriors on the 55th minute! And who else but Jane Stewart. Jane's 60th try in a now 25 game scoring streak. (70th try in 32 appearances)

So could the Warriors do it?

No - it ended 10-5. Despite the Warriors best efforts.

So congratulations to Greenock. Losing bonus point to the Warriors though so not all bad! Sometimes it just not meant to be. Despite all the pressure and possession..

The Warriors now have to regroup for their next game v Howe Harlequins next Sunday. Kick Off: 14.00 at Violetbank.

    Match Report / Match Highlights

    WARRIORS HOST GREENOCK
    26TH NOVEMBER 2017

    2ND V 3RD CLASH AT VIOLETBANK

So after a short break, the Warriors get back to league action on Sunday when they take on 2nd placed Greenock Wanderers. The Warriors are now in 3rd after their loss to Broughton Ladies a few weeks ago.

The Wanderers are one of the inform teams in the division having won their last 4 games convincingly. Only a narrow 15-12 loss to Broughton stopped them from being top of the league.

Based on currently form, the National 1 title is looking to be between Broughton Ladies, Greenock Wanderers and the Annan Warriors. Although I am sure Glasgow Uni and Kirkcaldy will be wanting to have words!

This could be an ever tougher game than the Broughton Ladies game a few weeks ago and the Warriors will need to be on the top of their game to get the win.

So we welcome Greenock Wanderers Ladies to Violetbank for the 3rd time and for our 4th encounter.

We don't have a great record v the Wanderers as its a played 3 lost 3 record for the Warriors.

All games were during the 2015/16 season with 2 league and 1 cup games.

The last game between the teams was played on the 21st February 2016 and is the game that is known as the last time Jane Stewart failed to score a try in a match for the Warriors.

24 games and 59 tries later, I hope this is not repeated! Although I am sure Jane would happily not score if the Warriors won the game!

Best of luck to the Warriors.

Players to meet at 12.30pm for the 2pm KO.

    Warriors Starting 15: 1 A Clark, 2 L Kyle, 3 C Aitken (c), 4 J Park, 5 N Barnes, 6 K Aitken , 7 N Dobie, 8 C Barnes, 9 N Barlow, 10 M McGeoch, 11 J Stewart, 12 A McCall, 13 A McWilliam, 14 L Vevers, 15 K Taylor

    Warriors Replacements: 16 J Dalgliesh, 17 R Armstrong, 18 E Jardine

    WARRIORS GAME OFF ON SUNDAY
    12TH NOVEMBER 2017

    CUP GAME TO BE RE-ARRANGED

The Warriors game v Watsonian's Ladies on Sunday is to be re-arranged to a later date. The extensive injury list of Annan Warriors (currently at 16 injured from a squad of 31) and players unavailable for Sundays clash means the SRU have agreed for the game to be played at a later to be agreed date.

    TOP OF THE TABLE CLASH
    5TH NOVEMBER 2017

THE WARRIORS UNBEATEN RUN COMES TO AN END

So at a sunny but cold Edinburgh, the Annan Warriors and Broughton Ladies took to the Granton Road pitch for their first meeting at a 15 a-side XV level for this top of the table clash.

As expected, both teams started at a hectic pace. Unfortunately for the Warriors it was Broughton who crossed the whitewash first in the 8th minute to take a 5-0 lead.

The score remained at 5-0 for the next 10 minutes or so, with both teams having chances, until the referee awarded a penalty to Broughton for some Warriors indiscipline. The kick was successful to take it to 8-0 to Broughton.

Time for the Warriors to dig deep and dig deep they did as just 5 minutes later, the speed machine that is Jane Stewart raced over for her 11th try of the season. Mally McGeoch was successful with the penalty. 8-7 and game on!

Both teams had chances but it wasn't until the last few minutes of the half that the scoreboard changed. Unfortunately, again for the Warriors, it was a double whammy as poor defence let in two quick converted tries for Broughton to take the half time score to 22-7.

If you have read any of my mini match reports before you know what is coming next....the second half started and both teams knew the next score was all important. A Broughton score and it was more or less game over for the Warriors. A Warrior score and it was game on again!

After a pep talk from Coach Choc, the Warriors took to the pitch determined to achieve the latter.

Alas after just 7 minutes into the 2nd half, Broughton crossed the whitewash again for their bonus point try and a commanding 29-7 lead.

It got worse for the Warriors as on the 60th minute Broughton took it to 36-7.

The Warriors dug deep, as they always do, and managed to get the next score on the 68th minute thanks to centre Allana McWilliam. Her 4th try in her 4th game for the Warriors. Twas converted by Mally

The Warriors also had the last say with a last minute try from Nadine Barnes to take the final score to Broughton Ladies 36 Annan Warriors 19.

So congratulations to Broughton Ladies who leapfrog over the Warriors to reclaim the top spot. The Warriors do still have a game in hand though.

It's been an amazing run of matches for the Warriors who can take what they have learned from this match and start to do it again!

The Warriors take a break from league action however as they have the small matter of facing Premier League Watsonian Ladies at Violetbank in the 3rd Round of the Sarah Beaney cup next Sunday. Kick Off: 14.00.

The Warriors next league match is on the 26th of November at Violetbank when they take on Greenock Wanderers Ladies.

Your support as always is much appreciated. #MonTheWarriors

    CLASH AT THE TOP
    5TH NOVEMBER 2017

    1ST V 2ND IN CAPITAL LEAGUE CLASH

So, potentially the biggest game of the season when current leaders Warriors take on 2nd place Broughton on Sunday.

Both teams are having a great season so far. Broughton have played 5, won 4 in the league (with another win in the Cup) and the Warriors played 4 won 4 (with another win in the Cup)

So a combined played 11 won 10 record for the 2 teams!

There will be still 10 games each to play at least for both teams after Sundays game, so there will be many more twists and turns in the race for promotion but the winners of this game will certainly feel more confident in achieving the end of season goal!

So the Warriors travel to Broughton Ladies for the first time.

Both teams are looking good for a top 3 finish this season.

Broughton Ladies have been a mainstay in National Division 1 and have been in this division for the last 4 seasons since entering it in season 2013/14.

This is definitely one of Broughton Ladies best starts to a rugby season.

The match will an interesting match up and should be a great game.

Players to meet at Bank Street at 10am for the 2pm KO

    Annan Warriors starting 15: 1 M Parker, 2 L Kyle , 3 C Aitken (c), 4 Abbie Clark, 5 N Barnes, 6 K Aitken, 7 C Barnes, 8 K Warrick , 9 N Barlow, 10 M McGeoch, 11 J Stewart , 12 A McCall , 13 A McWilliam , 14 L Vevers, 15 K Taylor

    Replacements:: 16 J Park, 17 J Dalgliesh, 18 M Alexander, 19 R Armstrong

U18 HORNETS HOPEFULLY OFF TO CARTHA

The U18 Hornets are hopefully off to Cartha on Sunday for a league clash.

Please keep an eye on social media for an update later on in the week,

    HORNETS BEATEN IN CARTHA
    29TH OCTOBER 2017

CARTHA TOO STRONG FOR THE HORNETS

The Hornets finally got a game after a 8 week break! Alas the teams were both rusty after the long lay off and were playing 2 experienced Cartha teams.

The U15 Hornets lost 55-0 while the U18 team (made up of players from Annan and East Kilbride) also lost.

Any game time is good game time though! Well played ladies. Onto the next game!

    GOOD WORKOUT AT BIGGAR
    27TH OCTOBER 2017

    DEVELOPMENT MATCH FOR THE WARRIORS

The Warriors travelled to Biggar Ladies to take part in a development match with their hosts.

The match was played in 4 x 20 mins quarters and allowed both teams to mix and match their experienced and new players.

This was Biggar Ladies first game since May and was a chance to get some game time under their belts.

Unsurprisingly the Warriors, who are now into their 3rd year of competitive rugby, scored at regular intervals throughout the first half and were 21-0 after 20 mins and 43-0 up at half time.

The Warriors scorers were: Nicole Barlow (3T), Caroline Aitken (2T), Allana McWilliam (1T, 1C), Rachel Armstrong (1T) and Mally McGeoch (3C)

The 2nd half continued in the same vein, but Biggar did get a try that their attacking play deserved. The match ended up at 75-5 to the Warriors.

The 2nd half Warriors scorers were: Rachel Armstrong (3T), Allan McWilliams (1T), Kayleigh Warrick (1T). Abbie Clark (1T) and Mally McGeoch (1C)

Many thanks for Biggar Ladies for hosting and your hospitality and good luck when you enter the National leagues, hopefully, next season.

The Warriors next game in on Sunday 5th November when they travel to Edinburgh to take on 2nd place Broughton Ladies. Biggest game of the season so far!

WARRIORS AND HORNETS ON THE ROAD
    27TH/29TH OCTOBER 2017

ANNAN WARRIORS TAKE BREAK FROM LEAGUE AND CUP

After last Sundays great win in the Cup v Glasgow Uni Ladies, the Warriors take a break from league and cup action with a friendly match v Biggar Ladies under floodlights.

Biggar Ladies have a very successful girls rugby section while their Ladies section is still in development. This will be a good match for both teams to learn from where a lot of the less experienced players will get plenty opportunity for game time.

The Warriors next league game in the following Sunday (5th November) when they travel to Broughton Ladies in a 1st v 2nd top of the table clash!

The following week is then perhaps even bigger as they host Premier league division Watsonians in the 3rd Round of the Sarah Beaney Cup!

    Annan Warriors Squad: from C Aitken (c), C Barnes, K Warrick, E Jardine, J Dalgliesh, M Parker, J Park, K Aitken, N Dobie, Abbie Clark, N Barlow, A McWilliam, M McGeoch, M Alexander, A McCall, L Thompson, R Armstrong, K Taylor, G Young

Meet at Clubhouse at 5.30pm for a 7.30pm kick off.

U15 AND U18 HORNETS ON SUNDAY

All going well weather wise, the U15 and U18 Hornets travel to Cartha Queen Park on Sunday for a West Conference league match. All players to meet as arranged with the coaches.

    Kick off: 12.00pm

Best of luck to all 3 teams team this weekend

    THE WARRIORS MARCH ON
    22ND OCTOBER 2017

3RD ROUND DRAW FOR THE WARRIORS

STOP PRESS: The Warriors have been drawn at home to Watsonian Ladies in the 3rd Round of the Cup. Tie to be played on the 12th November.

So for the 2nd time in a week, the Warriors took the Everholm pitch to face Glasgow Uni Ladies.

11 tries were scored in the first meeting so you assumed it could be a similar affair this time around.

So nil nil at half time was a little unexpected!

Both teams had adapted and defences were on top during the first 40.

The 2nd half though was a different affair with 3 tries in the first 20 minutes or so.

Glasgow Uni scored first to take a 7-0 lead but the Warriors are not a team to go down quietly and hit back with 2 converted tries of their own. First through Abbie Clark (Abbie's 4th try in the last 3 games) and then Alana McWilliam (3rd try in 3 games!)

Mally McGeoch with the conversions to take it to 14-7

So like last week it was a one score game and nervous times for the Annan support and the nails were bitten even further when with 10 to go Glasgow crossed the whitewash to take it to 14-12.

The Annan fans were therefor relieved when Jane Stewart popped up to score her 10th try of the season to take it to 21-12. Mally with the conversion.

The game was then made safe when Chelsea Barnes scored her 2nd of the season to take it to 26-12 with about 5 to go.

And the Warriors held on for their 5th straight victory of the season!

Well played the Warriors who now go into the 3rd round draw!

The undefeated 100% 5/5 Warriors next game is on Friday when they travel to Biggar for a friendly match.

UP FOR THE CUP FOR THE WARRIORS
    22ND OCTOBER 2017

SARAH BEANEY CUP TIE ON SUNDAY

So after last Sundays last gasp win over this Sundays opponents Glasgow Uni, the Warriors top the National Division 1 league!

If Kirkcaldy win this Sunday then the Warriors could fall back into 2nd but with a game in hand.

This Sundays clash though is a Sarah Beaney Cup clash. In round 1 the Warriors got a walk over when Ardrossan Ladies withdrew.

Glasgow Uni Ladies beat Oban Lorne 22-5 in their 1st round clash.

To the victor in this game means the 3rd round (shock!) but also some of the big guns of Scottish Women's rugby enter the fray as Ayr, Cartha QP, Stirling County & Watsonians Ladies all join the four 2nd round winners.

And if last weeks league clash between the 2 teams is anything to go by - there could be 1 or 8 tries in this game!

So the Warriors host and play Glasgow Uni Ladies for the second time.

Just in case you missed it, the teams met last Sunday in the league down at the Everholm, when the Warriors nicked it at the death winning 30-25. Jane Stewart with the winning try.

11 tries in all in that game on a heavy Everholm pitch. Hopefully on Sunday if the weather holds the game will, of course, be at Violetbank where hopefully home advantage could come into play a bit more? The Everholm being more of a neutral ground for both teams!

Glasgow Uni Ladies will no doubt be able to use last weeks game to adapt their game (if they feel its required!) to suit the Warriors play. The Warriors of course could do the same.

So what I am saying is Sundays game could be more of the same, or it might be different.

As always I am glad to bring my great insight to the perhaps 3 people who might read this!

One thing I am sure there will be a few tries and one team will walk away the winner and enter the 3rd round. Lets hope its the undefeated, this season, Warriors!

Players to meet at Violetbank 12.30 for a 14.00 KO

    Warriors Starting XV: 1 N Barnes, 2 L Kyle, 3 C Aitken (c), 4 Abbie Clark, 5 K Warrick, 6 K Aitken, 7 N Dobie, 8 C Barnes, 9 A McWilliam, 10 M McGeoch, 11 R Armstrong, 12 A McCall, 13 J Stewart, 14 L Vevers, 15 K Taylor

    Replacements: M Alexander, J Park , J Dalgliesh

100% START FOR THE WARRIORS CONTINUES
    15TH OCTOBER 2017

SECOND HALF COMEBACK FOR THE MIGHTY WARRIORS

The Warriors continued their league campaign on Sunday afternoon when they hosted Glasgow Uni Ladies.

It was also the debut of the Everholm pitch this season, as Violetbank was left to recover after the last few weeks of wet weather.

It was the first time an Annan Women's rugby team had graced the Everholm pitch since 2002 when the Annan Ladies rugby team had a game there.

It was also the first time the teams had met in any competition.

From the start, it was clear that both teams were up for the challenge. Both teams having early chances but as it wasn't until the 20st minute that a breakthrough was made on the scoreboard.

Unfortunately for the home fans it was an unconverted try by Glasgow Uni Ladies to take it to 5-0

And it got worse just a few minutes later when the Uni Ladies crashed over again to take it to 10-0.

Time to dig deep, and dig deep the Warriors did and they answered almost straight away with 2 great tries. The first through standoff Mally McGeoch (her first of the season) and then, not to be out done by the backs, Abbie Clark crashed over for her 3rd try in 2 matches. 10-10!

Time for the Glasgow Ladies to respond and almost straight from kick off they did with a well worked try of their own and just like the Warriors they scored another soon after. 20-10 with Glasgow securing the try bonus point.

There was no further scoring in the half. 6 tries in the half. A great advert for Women's rugby if you ask me!

The second half started with the Warriors knowing they had to score next to keep in touch with a Glasgow Uni team looking to repeat their performance in the first half.

And it was indeed the Warriors who scored not long after the restart with, who else but, top try scorer Jane Stewart with her 8th try of the season. 20-15 with about 5 minutes played in the second half

It was a nervy 10 minutes for both teams before the next try. And it was Alana McWilliams with her 2nd for the Warriors that tied the score up at 20-20. Some game!

And it was to get better for the Warriors when not longer after, Mally McGeoch popped up for her 2nd of the game. 25-20!

However, with 10 to go or so - Glasgow were not for lying down and scored the equalising try to take it to 25-25.

But this game was not over yet and with about 3 to go, Jane "The Rocket" Stewart popped up again and it was 30-25. And that was the final score!

A great display by the Warriors, especially in the second half. The Warriors now go 4 from 4 in the league. And well played to the Glasgow Uni Ladies who played their part in an epic match and picked up 2 points for their efforts.

The Warriors also now top National Division 1 as Broughton Ladies lost to Kirkcaldy. Just keeps on getting better!

Both teams will take what they have learnt from the game into next Sundays repeat clash between the two teams but this time in the Sarah Beaney Cup.

This game should be at Violetbank but you never know so keep an eye out for confirmation on the social media sites and the Observer.

    SUNDAYS TEAM NEWS
    15TH OCTOBER 2017

    HOME AGAIN FOR THE WARRIORS

STOP PRESS: The game in now at the Everholm,

The Warriors host and play Glasgow Uni Ladies for the first time on Sunday.

The Warriors will be wanting to keep up their 100% start to the league season.

Glasgow Uni Ladies have been in National 1 since their promotion from National 2 back in season 2014/15

In National 1 they have struggled to challenge for the promotion spot but have always managed to keep themselves in the league. This season could be different as despite their last 2 losses, they can still move into 2nd spot with a win on Sunday!

This game will be the first of two in a row at home v Glasgow Uni as the following Sunday they will be returning for the 2nd round of the Sarah Beaney Cup game.

You know whatever happens in the 1st game both teams will be adapting for the 2nd!

    Should be a great game.

Players to meet at Violetbank 12.45 for a 14.00 kick off.

    Annan Warriors XV Squad: 1 M Parker, 2 L Kyle, 3 C Aitken (c), 4 Abbie Clark, 5 C Clark, 6 K Aitken, 7 C Barnes , 8 K Warrick, 9 A McWilliam, 10 M McGeoch, 11 N Dobie, 12 A McCall, 13 J Stewart , 14 L Thompson, 15 K Taylor

    Subs from: E Jardine, M Alexander, L Vevers, R Armstrong, J Park

    HORNETS POTENTIALLY AT HOME

STOP PRESS: Alas all the Hornets game are now OFF.

At the time of writing, the U15 not U18 Hornets could be hosting Falkirk on Sunday.

There is some doubt re these games due to players numbers due to the School holidays.

Keep an eye on Social Media and this website for an update in the coming days.,

WARRIORS 3 FROM 3 IN LEAGUE
    8TH OCTOBER 2017

100% START TO THE SEASON CONTINUES FOR THE WARRIORS

The Warriors made it 3 from 3 in the league after a great win over Melrose Ladies at Violetbank this afternoon.

Annan got off to the best possible start when top try scorer Jane Stewart crashed over for the first try with just 5 minutes on the clock. Mal McGeoch with the conversion. 7-0. This was Jane's 5th try of the season

However, that was the last of the scoring, despite chances for both teams, until the 24th minute when Warrior winger Niamh Dobie crossed the whitewash to take the score to 12-0

There was then another gap until the next try and once again it was for the Warriors. This time thanks to nippy scrum half Nicole Barlow. 17-0 with about 5 to go in the half.

And then just before half time it got even better when Vice Captain Chelsea Barnes scored her first try of the season to take the half time score to 22-0.

So with the try bonus point secured, the 2nd half plan was to ensure that Melrose did not score first and start their way back into the game as 40 minutes in rugby is a long time!

Luckily the second half started similar to the first and it was the Warriors who scored first. Abbie Clark with the try. Looking forward to seeing the match highlights to see if its one of her trademark finishes.....

And just after that Jane "The Rocket" Stewart scored again! Mal with the conversion. 34-0 to the Warriors. That try took Jane to 64 tries in 28 appearances for the Warriors!

Man, I was happy to score 3 tries in my short Annan career! (Annan Colts....2 were against league holders Jed Thistle. If you ever want to know more just ask....happy to chat re it!)

Abbie Clark grabbed her 2nd try just before the 60th minute and it was 39-0 to the Warriors.

Credit to the Melrose Ladies who were playing some good rugby but had just come up against a clinical Warriors team.

Next up for Alana McWilliams making her Warriors debut. Not a bad start to your Warriors career! 44-0 with 15 or so to go.

And who else but Jane Stewart who scored the last try of the game to take it to 49-0 with a few minutes to go.

Great result and a 5 pointer for the Warriors.

The Warriors have another league home game next Sunday when they take on Glasgow Uni Ladies. The first of 2 home games v Glasgow Uni in 8 days as they meet again in the Sarah Beaney Cup on the 22nd.

HOME GAMES FOR THE WARRIORS AND HORNETS
    8TH OCTOBER 2017

HOME LEAGUE DEBUT FOR THE WARRIORS

This is the first home game of the season for the Warriors as they entertain Melrose Ladies at Violetbank on Sunday.

Melrose Ladies have had a tough start in the league with 3 loses in their 3 games. However they won last Sunday in the Sarah Beaney Cup and so are finally getting back to the form of old.

As for the Warriors this will be their first game in 3 weeks and the Warriors will be hoping to keep up their early season winning form they have shown and keep up with the top 2 in the league.

So the Warriors host and play Melrose Ladies for the first time.

Melrose Ladies have been around for a number of years and were regulars in the top league in Women's Rugby until recently. Unfortunately they struggled last season and were relegated to National 1 as a result.

The Warriors will be wanting to keep up their winning streak and will be hoping that the weather allows them to play their 1st home game of the season!

A win on Sunday would set the Warriors up nicely for the following Sunday, when they host 2nd place Glasgow Uni at Violetbank. Melrose will be wanting to get their league season back on track and add a tick in the win column. This should be an interesting match up.

    Annan Warriors Squad: 1 Ashley Clark, 2 L Kyle, 3 C Aitken (c), 4 Abbie Clark, 5 C Clark, 6 N Barnes, 7 C Barnes, 8 K Warrick, 9 N Barlow, 10 M McGeoch, 11 N Dobie, 12 A McCall, 13 J Stewart, 14 L Thompson, 15 K Taylor

    Replacements: K Aitken, M Parker, M Alexander, J Park

Meet at Violetbank at 12.30pm for a 2pm KO.

    HORNETS HOST CARRICK

STOP PRESS: Alas all the Hornets game are now OFF.

Also if the weather allows it, the U15 and U18 Hornets are hopefully getting their home league season started tomorrow when they entertain Carrick Rugby. 11.45 and 12.45 KO’s respectively.

The U12 Hornets will also have a training match/mixed with Carrick U12 players which will start around 12.00.

Best of luck to all the teams and hope the weather holds!

    THE WARRIORS ON THE ROAD....AGAIN!
    1ST OCTOBER 2017

    ON THE CUP TRAIL

STOP PRESS: And the Annan Warriors game v Ardrossan is now OFF as Ardrossan can not raise a team and have forfeited the tie. Choc is currently trying to arrange a friendly so fingers crossed!

The Warriors travel to Ardrossan for the 1st meeting between the clubs this Sunday

Not surprising as Ardrossan just formed in 2015 and their league opening v Kelso ladies was their first competitive game.

They have had some pre-season wins over Falkirk and Wigtownshire so they are not to be taken lightly as Kelso will be one of the favourites for the National 2 title so most teams will probably lose to the Borders club this season.

Cup runs are always a good thing as you get to play against new teams and see how other teams play their rugby.

This is always a handy experience especially if you make it to the 3rd round or Quarter Finals when the top ladies teams enter the draw!

Will be an interesting match up.

Players to meet at Bank Street at 10am for a 2pm KO.

    Warriors Squad: 1 Ashley Clark, 2 L Kyle, 3 E Jardine, 4 C Aitken, 5 Abbie Clark, 6 N Barnes, 7 S Grainger, 8 C Barnes, 9 N Barlow, 10 M McGeoch, 11 N Dobie, 12 A McCall, 13 J Stewart, 14 L Thompson, 15 K Taylor

    Subs from:K Aitken, L Vevers, M Parker, M Alexander

    THE WARRIORS WIN AGAIN
    17TH SEPTEMBER 2017

ANOTHER AWAY WIN FOR THE WARRIORS

The Warriors took to the pitch for their 2nd league game of the season and for the 1st league encounter with Kirkcaldy Ladies. The teams had met twice last season in the BT Cup and Shield with both teams winning one game

The Warriors got off to a great start with Kim Taylor crashing over for her 1st try for the Warriors after just 5 minutes to take it to 5-0.

And it got better for the Warriors just 12 minutes later when scrum half Nicole Barlow scored a great sniping try. With Mal McGeoch with the conversation it was 12-0 to the Warriors.

Both teams had some great chances and it was no surprise that the home team hit back on the 31st minute with a try of their own to take it to 12-5

And then on the stroke of half time. Kirkcaldy scored again to take it to 12-10 at half-time. Game on!

A big second half was required from the Warriors and for the first 17 minutes both teams defences were on top but on the 57 minute, who else but Jane "Lets not drop the ball over the line" Stewart scored. Mal with the conversion.

Then it was Niamh Dobie turn to cross the whitewash on the 60 minute. Twas Niamh third try for the Warriors. Nice!

Then just a few moments later, Jane did it again. Mal with the conversion to take it to 31-10. For the record Jane has now scored a least a try in her last 20 games.

But Kirkcaldy showed they were not for lying down and with 12 to go, scored a converted try to take it to 31-17.

With the last play of the game, Kirkcaldy secured themselves 2 bonus points but it was the Warriors with the win.

5 points for the Warriors who march on in the league!

The Warriors now take a break from league action as their next game is in BT Cup away to Ardossan on the 1st October.

WARRIORS AND U15 HORNETS IN ACTION
    17TH SEPTEMBER 2017

    WARRIORS ON THE ROAD

So after the great win over Howe Harlequins, the Warriors have another trip on the road on the 17th September

This is because their home game v Garioch Ladies due to be played last Sunday was put back to the 18th February.

The Warriors currently sit in 3rd place, behind leaders Glasgow Uni and Broughton Ladies, who have both played an extra game.

2 teams (including Kirkcaldy) have yet to play due to various reasons.

With hopefully 4 games taking place on Sunday, a win for the Warriors could consolidate 3rd. Kirkcaldy will no doubt be wanting to finally get their season off to a winning start though!

So the Warriors travel to Kirkcaldy for the 2nd time and take on the Ladies for the 3rd time. This will be the first time they will have met on league duty, as the previous 2 games have been in the BT Cup and the BT Bowl, both played last season.

The Warriors won the home Cup leg while the Kirkcaldy Ladies were victorious in the return BT Bowl leg.

The Warriors will be hoping to build on their great win v Howe Harlequins and consolidate their place in the top half of the league.

    Warriors Squad: Ashley Clark, M Parker, E Jardine, C Aitken, C Clark, N Barnes, S Grainger, C Barnes, N Barlow, M McGeoch, N Dobie, A McCall, J Stewart, L Thompson, K Taylor

Subs from: J Dalgliesh, K Aitken, C Gate, J Park, L Vevers, Abbie Clark

Meet at Clubhouse at 9.30am for a 2pm KO

U15 HORNETS AT HOME ON SUNDAY

STOP PRESS: Alas the game is now OFF as Oban can not raise a team.

On Sunday the U15 Hornets host Oban Lorne in a West Conference league match .

The Hornets will be hoping to build on the 30-10 win they had a fortnight ago v Cartha Queens Park

    Kick Off: 11.30am

    All players meet as arranged.

NO GAMES THIS WEEKEND FOR THE WARRIORS OR HORNETS
    10TH SEPTEMBER 2017

NO GAMES BUT TRAINING FOR THE WARRIORS

U12, U15 and U18 Hornets - The Hornets do not have a game this weekend. The U15 and U18 Hornets will hopefully be taking on their counterparts from Oban the following Sunday.

Warriors XV - The Annan Warriors home fixture v Garioch Ladies, due to be played on Sunday 10th September, has been moved to the 18th February 2018.

Weather permitting the Warriors will be training at Violetbank on Sunday instead, 10.00-11.30

THE WARRIORS WIN WHILE THE HORNETS ALSO WIN 2 FROM 2
    3RD SEPTEMBER 2017

OPENING DAY WIN FOR THE WARRIORS

The Warriors started life in Division 1 against an opponent they have played quite a few times over the last few years - Howe Harlequins.

Howe have had the upper hand in the last few encounters and the Warriors had never won in Cupar so the odds were against the Warriors but playing in their new strips you always knew the Warriors would, as always, give it their best shot.

Alas within a few minutes of kick off the Warriors found themselves 5-0 behind thanks to a well worked Quins try.

The Warriors then did what they always do and dug deep (easy to type, harder to say!) and on the 10th minute Jane Stewart (who else!) was on the end of a great move to tie up the scores at 5-5.

The game them ebbed and flowed for the next 20 mins until the next score. Alas once again it was the Quins who crossed the whitewash to take it to 10-5.

The game was delayed due to an injury but it was the Warriors who hit back next thanks to a Correy Clark try to level up the scores at 10-10.

But Howe hit straight back to take it to 15-10 just before the half time whistle.

Not a bad first half of rugby with 5 great tries scored!

And what a start to the second half as Rachel Armstrong scored for the Warriors with Mel McGeoch with the conversion to take it to 17-15 and the Warriors took the lead for the 1st time in the match. It was Rachel's first try for the Warriors in her 11th competitive game.

Nervy times ahead and for the next 15 minutes defenses on both sides were on top and there was no further score until once again Howe crossed the whitewash to take it to 20-17 with 16 to go.

But the Warriors are a team that never say die and on the 68th minute, the rocket that is Jane Stewart scored a great try. With Mal successful with the conversion the Warriors took the lead again, 24-20.

And thats how the game ended despite chances again for both teams.

    What a match!

Well played the Warriors who take a break from league action until the 17th September when they travel to Kirkcaldy Ladies.

Match Report / Match Photos (opens in a new tab) )

THE HORNETS START THE SEASON IN STYLE

The Hornets started their league season with 2 great wins v East Kilbride.

The U18 Hornets won 80-0 while the U15 Hornets won 30-10.

A great start to their season - well played the Hornets!

WARRIORS AND HORNETS ON THE ROAD
    3RD SEPTEMBER 2017

WARRIORS AT THE QUEEN OF THE TENS
    20TH AUGUST 2017

    GOOD EXPERIENCE FOR THE WARRIORS

After their promotion to National 1, the Warriors were invited to take part in the Queen of the Tens Tournament for Premier and National 1 teams at Livingston Rugby Club.

The Warriors were put in a group with Premier League Champions and top team in Scotland Murrayfield Wanderers, Premier League team and last years National 1 undefeated champions Watsonians Ladies and fellow National 1 team Glasgow Uni.

Up first was Glasgow Uni and the Warriors showed the speed and skills that took them to the Morgan Queen of the Tens tournament title last season with a fine 15-0 win. Tries from Jane Stewart (2) and Mal McGeoch.

After a short break, next were the high flying Watsonians team. The Warriors fought well and dug deep but the experience and confidence of the Watsonians team was to prove too much and the Warriors went down 50-12.

The Warriors had the last word though, as they continued to fight to the very end with well worked try from Kim Taylor. Jane Stewart scored the Warriors other try. Mal with the conversion.

The last game was always going to be the toughest against the experienced Murrayfield Ladies team. The Warriors held their own and were only 22-0 down at half time but in the 2nd half the Murrayfield Ladies turned on the style to end up 50-0 winners.

The games against the Premier opposition (and various Scottish Internationalists!) were always going to be tough going but the Warriors played with great determination and the great win versus National 1 opponents Glasgow Uni is a better indicator as to what the Warriors need to do and could/can do this season!

    Onto next week!
