ANNAN 2NDS LOSE TO CREIGHTON
This friendly played at Parkland was a thoroughly enjoyable game which Annan should have won. Creighton spent very little time in the Annan half but came away with tries. Annan failed to capitalise on the major possession of ball and territory.
The visitors had 2 disallowed tries in the last 10 minutes of the game, with the absence of TMO, the ref although not up with play deemed the ball to be held up on each occasion. Stand off Connor Trant converted two penalties to keep the score close. Creighton threw everything at Annan in the dying minutes of the game but the Annan defence was superb and the game ended without further scores.
A good game played in good spirit with a tasty feed afterwards. Thanks to Creighton for the game and their hospitality.
ANNAN 2NDS AWAY TO CREIGHTON
There are no scheduled league games this weekend with the Autumn Internationals taking centre stage although Annan 2nds have a friendly arranged against old friends Creighton. CANCELLED - WATERLOGGED PITCHES
Annan RFCs Annual 15s Tournament for the Violetbank Shield had to be cancelled on Saturday following two days of incessant rain when the pitches were declared unplayable due to waterlogging. THE NEW SEASON
This Saturday sees Annan RFC host its annual 15 a-side Tournament at Violetbank as a curtain raiser to the start of the new rugby season. The season officially starts on the 1st September with Annan at home to Cambuslang in the RBS West Regional Division 2 and their 2nd XV also at home to Dumfries 3rds in the RBS Reserve league West 3B.
Annan President Dave Fisher had the following to say on the new challenges which lie ahead for the club As Annan RFCs new President I, like everyone else at the Club, am looking forward to the new season. The coaches and players have put in considerable efforts into their pre-season training and this Saturday sees the next stage of pre-season preparation with the annual Violetbank Shield at Violetbank and coaches Neil Moffat and Niall Smith will use this to try out further permutations before the seasons action begins in earnest. After relegation last season we now find ourselves in RBS West Regional Division 2 and will be revisiting and welcoming some old adversaries from our Glasgow and District League days. Despite last seasons disappointment I feel the club will acquit themselves well and will be knocking on the promotion door come the end of the season.
Rugby clubs like Annan rely heavily on their youth structure and it is heartening to note that our youth structure has in the past couple of years blossomed and will, hopefully provide the senior side of the club with its stars of the future. I would also like to thank all our sponsors who stay with us as, a club, from year to year. This year sees the club with a new main sponsor The St James Smokehouse and we look forward to a long and happy association with them.
Finally I and the rest of the club look forward to seeing increasing crowds at Violetbank to support the players of all ages who fly the flag for the club.
Daves thoughts were echoed by Club Captain Craig McCann After a disappointing end to last year and finding ourselves in a lower league, the squad has trained well all pre-season and a large number of the boys are looking bigger fitter and stronger. Many of the younger lads have trained hard and their skills have improved drastically as a result.
Looking forward to this season I have every reason to be optimistic about our chances. The boys are on good form and have gained valuable experience over the last couple seasons. We will be looking to play a fast flowing, attractive brand of rugby in an attempt to win a large number of games and get the crowds back to Violetbank. The players appreciate all the support they are given so I urge and welcome as many of you as possible to join us at Violetbank on a Saturday afternoon.
VIOLETBANK 15-ASIDE TOURNAMENT
Eight teams will line up at Violetbank on Saturday in an attempt to win the Violetbank Shield.
