    Annan’s under 16’s continued on their winning ways with a stunning 39 – 12 victory away against Biggar under 16’s. The Annan youths outscored their more illustrious opponents by five tries to two with E. Currie gaining a hat trick and J. Nelson and A. Wallace scoring a try a piece. The scoring was completed by C. McCann adding two conversions. Of all the Annan XV’s this seems to be the one to watch as they pile up win after win with some great team performances.

    On Sunday Annan played host at Violetbank to a touring side from the Grand River Collegiate Institute from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. The tourists brought with them two sides at under 18 level- a boys team and a girls team. The under 18 boys side were pitted against the Dumfries & Galloway Warriors, the team made up of the cream of the regions secondary schools, who ran out winners by 47 points to 7 scoring 7 tries to 1 in a thoroughly entertaining match.

    The under 18 girls team were entertained by the Annan’s Ladies XV and in a hard fought tussle against an extremely athletic Canadian side the hosts ran out eventual winners by five tries to 1 with Lydsay Povall and Sarah Hornsby scoring a brace of tries a piece and Lara Brodie scoring the fifth.

    Annan’s Mini Section had a real treat on Sunday when they provided part of pre-match entertainment in a Tag Tournament at the Newcastle Falcons v Wasps match at Newcastle. The lads and lassies had a great day out and were able to see several of their rugby heroes play as both teams sported several Scottish internationalists between them.

  • Annan go down to their first home defeat of the season, losing to local rivals Langholm 38-14. Annan were guilty of gifting 5 tries to the speedy Langholm backs. Langholm deserved to win but not by as much as the score-line suggests. The Annan forwards dominated the poor Langholm forwards however the Annan backs had an off day and were brutally punished by Langholm...

  • Annan as well as completing the double over Stewartry in Division 1 of the BT National Leagues, also won their first away points in the league this season and retained the Chisholm Cup in a typical hard fought derby battle at the Greenlaw on Saturday.

A game I was not at, but it probably contained superb tries, wonderful running rugby and err...errr..stuff. Well done Annan a top 6 place and promotion to Premier League 3 is still a possibility..

  • Annan maintain their unbeaten home run in the league by beating Murrayfield Wanderers 17-14. If only Annan could produce this kind of form away from home!!!! Not a classic game by any means but after 80 minutes Annan had more points and at the end of the day the team with the most points (over the regulation 80 minutes + injury time) is normally the winner, rugby was the winner...err..err..err..over the moon.....game of two halves......err...errr..errr....hmmmmm

  • Annan draw Glasgow Hawks away in the 3rd round of the SRU Cup. Yup, on November 13th 1999, Annan travel to Glasgow to meet Premier 1 team, and current league leaders, Glasgow Hawks in the 3rd round of the SRU Cup. A victory is unlikely but lets hope the Annan boys do Annan proud. (as they always do) If Annan do get beaten by Glasgow Hawks, they enter the Shield competition instead. More details closer to the time....

  • Inverleith call off on Thursday with them unwilling to travel to Annan as they didn't want to risk injuring their new front row???!!. Inverleith now lose £200 from the SRU for this round, £200 from entering the Bowl Competition and are banned from entering next years competition. Quite a financial mistake by Inverleith if you ask me. Full service will hopefully be resumed next Saturday 23 October against bottom club in the League, Glenrothes. Lets hope a five pointer prevails, although I've heard Glenrothes are not as bad a team as their league position makes them out to be. So I'll accept a 3-0 win!!!

Annan lose 17-16 to Langholm, and for the 2nd year running the referee is the star of the show by awarding a late try to Langholm that to everyone there was clearly not a try. If only video evidence was allowed in rugby games!!!!.Well played Langholm anyway......get a grip referee.......

  • Under the shadow of Murrayfield, Annan lost their opening league game of the season 12-3 to Murrayfield Wanderers. A scrappy game that never really got going, with all the points coming from penalties. Neither side looked like getting a try, but the game wasn't helped by a referee who was a bit quick on the whistle at times. The Annan side had lots of changes in the team with Captain Big Stuff still in Holland, Paul Buckley on holiday, Gogs unable to play due to his Dads death midweek, and Baz still in Oz. Annan looked good at times but it always seemed to break down with a knock-on, a forward pass or a turnover. Oh well heres to Livingston next week at Annan. May the backlash commence!!!! Funniest sight of the day was the Murrayfield Wanderers spectator who entertained the crowd with his indepth knowledge of the game, his sharp wit and number of different ways he managed to use the words "referee, blind, are, you, offside, feeding, away ref, squint, your a bloody joke ref," The man was a rugby genius, but remember mate...its only a game.......its only a game...its only a game.......

  • Annan 1st XV win their last pre-season friendly 31-19. The 1st XV record their first victory since Feburary 1999 when they defeated Wigton 31-19. This was the first time that Annan had ever beaten their English neighbours. The Annan 2nd XV were thumped by Carlisle though.....oh well you can't have everything....

  • Both Annan Teams are beaten in their respective touraments. The Annan 1st XV travelled to Aspatria to play in a 15 a side Tournament at the Cumbrian club. Annan played 3 games in their group, losing all 3. I was not there but I heard that Annan played some good rugby and this tournament has some class sides. The Annan squad that travelled to Moffat, hosting a 10's tourament, reached the SEMI-FINAL!!!!! - having won their only other game. The Annan strip did reach the final though....with Stewartry wearing the amber and black of Annan to avoid a colour clash with their opponents. So in a way....Annan made the final, and 10 more men have the honour of saying they played in Annan colours................

  • Annan are beaten 24-20 by London team, Marlow RFC. The first real game for Annan after the great day out last Saturday against the Scottish Legends. Marlow RFC on tour from darkest London had the better of the first half, their backs making a mockery of the Annan cover defence, scoring 3 tries and a conversion. Annan started to get back into the game late in the first half scoring a great try in the corner after a brilliant piece of running by Andy Render. In the second half the Annan backs found their game and Annan scored 3 further tries. In the dying minutes Annan almost scored the winner but it was not to be. Final Score at Violetbank Stadium!! - Annan 20 v Marlow 24.Funniest sight of the evening, seeing Ian "Grumpy" Gilmour doing a mad dance and run, trying to get away from a wasp.....I found it funny anyway...

  • A fantastic weekend in which Annan celebrated its 30th Birthday AND opened its new ground at Violetbank. Full details of this great day can be found by going HERE. I also hear that on the Saturday night a Full Monty was conducted on the Victoria Hall Stage by a few of the Scottish Legends and Annan players.
