FOUNDER MEMBER DIES
Annan Rugby Club are immensely saddened to report the death of founder member of the Club Donald ‘Tich’ Watson who died this morning.

‘Tich’ had been involved with Annan RFC since its inception 43 years ago and had, indeed, been a stalwart of the Club - as a player, and as the Club’s first bar steward.
‘Tich’ gave a lot, and meant a lot, to Annan Rugby Club. He will be sadly missed by all.
Tich’s funeral will be held on Thursday 15th December at 11am at Rouchan Loch Crematorium Dumfries.
Due to the number of people wishing to pay their last respects to 'Tich' on Thursday at Rouchan Loch it has been suggested that a bus from the clubhouse to Rouchan Loch and back may be worthwhile. If you are interested please phone Ian Gilmour on (01461) 202854 by no later than Wednesday

THE NEW SEASON
This Saturday sees Annan RFC host its annual 15 a-side Tournament at Violetbank as a precursor to the start of the new rugby season. The season officially starts on the 27th August with Annan’s participation in Round 1 of the RBS Shield Tournament away to East Kilbride with the RBS West Regional League Division 1 starting the following week with, as the fates would have it, Annan travelling to East Kilbride again.
Annan President Don Barty had the following to say on the new challenges which lie ahead for the club “Like everyone else at the Club, I always get a real buzz at the start of each season and I know that the Players and Coaches are raring to go. They had a good warm-up game at Langholm last Saturday and acquitted themselves well against a higher placed league Club. This Saturday sees the next stage of pre-season preparation with the annual Violetbank Shield and coaches Neil Moffat and Niall Smith will use this to try out further permutations before the season’s action begins in earnest. I know that the coaches and players have been working extremely hard since June and the fitness level showed last Saturday. New Captain Craig McCann will have the full backing of the squad, and basically we’re champing at the bit to get going! The leagues have been re-jigged on a Regional basis below National One, so Annan find themselves in RBS West Division One. Local derbies against Stewartry and Newton Stewart will add some spice and the league will be every bit as tough as last season with Waysiders Drumpellier, Glasgow Accies, GHK, Irvine, Marr, East Kilbride and Marr making up the rest of the new ten team league. No more weekends away in the North of Scotland which pleases our Treasurer and disappoints the players!
In a rural area like ours, we are always going to lose players who move on elsewhere and who are difficult to replace. We’ve got to “grow our own” and this season’s team is one of the youngest we’ve ever had. One thing is certain – they will give their all and play expansive rugby which will have our stalwart supporters firmly behind them. Firmly behind us too are our many local sponsors. They keep the Club going and it’s fantastic how they stay with us year on year. Our thanks to all of them, in particular Magnox, AC Eggleton and The Shed.
We look forward to seeing good crowds at Violetbank to support the lads. There will be excitement in the forthcoming World Cup in New Zealand, but you’ll get your fair share up at Violetbank as well. Hope to see you there!”
Don’s thoughts were echoed by new Club Captain Craig McCann “Thoughts on becoming captain - I am honoured to become captain of my home town club after being a part of the senior set up for 9 years. I hope we, as a team, can work hard together and produce some very positive results. Thoughts on upcoming season - With the new structure to the leagues it will be interesting to see how we have progressed in the off season against some strong sides. I am very confident that we can produce some fine performances and results and realistically mix it with the top teams in this new league. The squad has worked very hard in pre-season training and there is genuine competition for places now which has been missing for the past couple of seasons. The most positive part of pre- season has been the increased number of younger boys at training and are looking to develop into good players. This will hopefully help strengthen the first team but also bolster the second team and aid the development of these boys.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our supporters for their continued support and would encourage anyone else to come up and support the lads on a Saturday. Much appreciated.”
Club Coach Neil Moffat was similarly upbeat about the clubs chances for the new season "Although our final league position last season was disappointing we believe there has been a significant improvement in the playing squad to be optimistic for the forthcoming season. In 2011 we have had good results and some great performances demonstrating the increasing skill level, maturity and experience of the squad. Over the summer our young players (and some old ones) have worked hard on their fitness at training and in the weights room ensuring they are not only a year wiser but are also bigger and stronger than last year. The regionalisation of the league does not appear to have weakened the strength of opposition from last year, however we believe we are in a far better position to tackle it. The players always appreciate the support they receive at Violetbank and are looking forward to repay that by producing some more good results this season, starting with the tournament this weekend. Hopefully with coaches, players, club members and supporters all pulling in the same direction both senior teams fielded by Annan Rugby Club will have a successful season."

Earn the Club Commission
Scottish Rugby has recently introduced a simplified way for clubs to earn commission through the sale of Scotland match tickets. This new development uses the existing Scottish Rugby On-Line Ticket Centre, but in such a way that allows us to continue to earn valuable commission on the sale of tickets through our club members.
How Does It Work?
Every Club in Scotland is being provided with its own unique URL (i.e. website address) to gain access to the Scottish Rugby On-Line Ticket Centre. This is virtually identical to the existing On-Line Ticket sales process so if you currently use this method of purchase you won’t notice any difference. However, as soon as you enter the site using the web address, the system will automatically match your purchase against our club and immediately allocate the appropriate commission (based on the gross sales value).
The URL for our club is: https://www.eticketing.co.uk/scottishrugby/list.aspx?tagref=6&advcode=Annan&groupref=14&digest=3dcfbbeb27624b8069bc255efab25d357eabfcef
When Will the System Start Operating?
The new system is in place now for Scotland’s 2011 EMC Tests and 2012 RBS 6Nations games. Commission will also be available to our Club for sales of tickets to the Emirates Airlines Edinburgh 7s. You should note that the sale of tickets relating to the biennial Scotland v England game will continue to be processed manually and our club has already received an allocation for the 2012 England game.
