THE 1ST XV ARE BT WEST 2 CHAMPIONS
14TH MAY 2016

THE 1ST XV RUN RIOT IN CHAMPIONSHIP WIN

After a long long season, at a sunny and crowded Violetbank, the 1st XV claimed the bonus point win they needed and as a result go up to BT West 1 as Champions of West 2.

Coming onto the field through a guard of honour courtesy of the Youth players, the 1st XV started like they meant business and were 14-0 up after only 7 minutes thanks to tries by Callum Bell and Ryan Hetherington

Waysiders Drumpellier did reply on the 13th minute with a try of their own but all that seemed to do was inspire the Annan players to up their game. And up it they did.

The rest of the first half was one way traffic and Annan scored a further 7 tries through Willie Gray, Cairn Wallace, Christian White, Alex Halliday, 2 from Michael Thompson and another from Callum Bell.

Captain Craig McCann was successful with 7 conversions in total.

This took the half time score to Annan 1st XV 59 v Waysider Drumpellier 7.

The second half started in much the same vein as the first and by the 60th minute Annan had piled on another 4 tries through Captain Craig McCann, Michael Thompson again (his hat-trick), Callum Bell (also his hat-trick) and Alan Rae.

Captain McCann kicked 1 of the conversions. Callum Bell converted his own try and Cairn Wallace had a successful shot at goal. The score stood at 85-7

Waysiders continued to battle however and did managed to stem the tide for a good period, determined to ensure Annan did not break the 100 point barrier.

Annan did have the last say in the match thanks to another Alex Halliday try and a try from Dan Nordon. Cairn Wallace with the 1 conversion.

Final Score: Annan 1st XV 97 v Waysiders Drumpellier 7.

So Annan win, and win in style to take the BT West 2 title, undefeated in their 18 games. And with tonight also being the clubs Player Presentation and Ceilidh night - I think their might be a few sore heads in the morning!

Well played lads.

Not a bad end to quite a successful season.

THE 1STS KEEP THEIR TITLE AMBITIONS ON TRACK
11TH MAY 2016

THE 1ST XV WIN BUT MADE TO WORK FOR IT ALL THE WAY

The 1st XV win v McLaren at Cumbernauld RFC but had to fight all the way by a determined and fired up McLaren side.

Annan scored 4 tries in the 1st half though Michael Thompson, Sean Haren, Ryan Glass and David Wyllie to take a 26-10 lead into half time. Craig McCann with 3 conversion.

However if you thought it was game over, oh you would be so wrong! McLaren game storming back in the second half and with 25 minutes to go it was 29-24 to Annan. Craig McCann with a penalty.

A late McCann penalty made the game safe and it ended up 32-24 to Annan.

What a game, great attack in the 1st half, great defence in the 2nd half and now Annan can win the league on Saturday when they host Waysiders Drumpellier

THE 1ST XV TRAVEL TO CUMBERNAULD ON WEDNESDAY
11TH MAY 2016

FIRSTS TAKE ON MCLAREN ON WEDNESDAY

So we travel to Cumbernauld on Wednesday to take on McLaren RFC in our penultimate BT West 2 fixture.

We first met McLaren back in February 1992 in Glasgow District 2. Annan won that away game 33-3. We than has to wait 20 years before we met again, this time in 2012 during our last stint in West 2. Annan won both those game on their way to our 100% played 22 won 22 season.

Our last meeting was this season when we played out a 25-25 draw. So you might have worked out that McLaren are the only team this season to have taken points off us.

So Annan will not be underestimating this McLaren team, despite their recent poor run of form, as McLaren on their day can just about beat anyone.

This game will be taking place at Cumbernauld RFC as well so the boost a home ground normally gives a team will be missing for Annan.

Its going to be a huge game for Annan as a win here will mean we can win the BT West 2 division in front of our home fans next Saturday! I am sure that McLaren will have something to say about that though on Wednesday!

McLaren started the season like a house on fire, topping the league after a played 5 won 5 start, scoring 175 points in the process!

The next 10 games were however not as good with a won 2 lost 7 drawn 1 record and as a result McLaren are currently in 6th spot with 3 games to play.

McLaren can still get themselves into 4th and I think next season it will be between McLaren, Clydebank and Annan/Stewartry for the promotion place(s) in West 2.

Whether it is Annan or Stewartry could be dependant on the result of Wednesdays game. After Saturdays win over Isle of Arran, Annan still need to win their last 2 games but now just need 1 try bonus point (probably!)

Annans points difference is now 132 points better than Stewartrys so its possible for Annan to end up on 80 points (same as the probable point total of Stewartry) and be champions. With this game being played at neutral Cumbernauld RFC - its going to be interesting to see which teams adapts better to the ground! Heres hoping its Annan!

Annan starting 15: R Glass, K Warrick, R Martin, M Thompson, C White, D Nordon, A Clark, S Haren, A Jancey, C McCann (Captain), B Jamieson, D Wyllie, A Halliday, A Rae, C Wallace

Replacements: C Nicholson, N Coupland, C bell, J Kirby, W Gray, A Torbett, R Hetherington.

Meet at the club at 16.30 unless otherwise arranged.

Kick Off: 19.00

BONUS POINT WIN FOR THE 1ST XV
7TH MAY 2016

ANNAN MOVE TO WITHIN 4 POINTS OF STEWARTRY

In the 1st of three games in 8 days, Annan get a great win over Isle of Arran RFC

The bonus point was secured by half time with 4 great tries.

First on the score sheet was David Wyllie after a well worked move. Further Annan tries from Sean Haren, David Wyllie again and then Angus Clark made the score 28-0 at half time. Captain Craig McCann was successful with the 4 conversions.

In the second half, a 2nd try from now Sean Haren (his 20th of the season) made the score 33-0 and the game safe.

Further Annan tries came from James Kirby, Alan Rae and David Wyllie with his hat-trick.

Arran never gave up and they got a consolation try with 10 minutes to go.

Annan had the last word though through a Christian White try and then a James Kirby try at the death.

So the final score was Annan 1st XV 62 v Isle of Arran RFC 5. Craig McCann was successful with 2 conversions.

So another great win for the lads who move to within 4 points of leaders Stewartry.

Annan now also have a plus 132 points difference over Stewartry which could come in handy if we win our remaining 2 games but fail to get a try bonus point in one of the games.

Annans next game is on Wednesday when they travel to Cumbernauld RFC to take on McLaren RFC. Kick Off: 19.00.

A win here would put Annan to the top of the league for the first time this season! Annans remaining game is next Saturday at Violetbank when they take on Waysiders.

Interesting times ahead!

WEEKEND TEAM NEWS
7TH MAY 2016

ANNAN WELCOME ARRAN TO VIOLETBANK IN LEAGUE

This weekend sees Annan embark on a three games in eight days adventure to see if they can lift the West 2 League title. They play Arran this Saturday followed by McLaren next Wednesday night at the neutral ground of Cumbernauld and finish up on Saturday 14th May at home to Waysiders Drumpellier.

Annan welcome Isle of Arran to Annan for the second time and to Violetbank for the first. The teams first met way back in 1991 in Glasgow District 2 at the Everholm. Annan won that day 51-3. With tries from Andy Render, Andy Renwick, Dougie Pagan, Iain Gray, Iain Kerr, Mark Hollis and Stuart Elliot.

The clubs then had to wait 24 years before we played again, which was this season’s match at Arran. Annan won that encounter 15-11 but were made to work all the way by a determined Arran side.

As has been the case for the entire season, Annan need to win today (with a bonus point) if they wish to pip Stewartry at the top of the league.

Isle of Arran are also needing the points to help them avoid potential relegation into West 3. As usual an interesting game is in prospect and a win for either team could determine which league they play in next season.

Annan 1st XV Squad: R Glass, K Warrick, R Martin, M Thompson, C White, D Nordon, A Clark, S Haren, A Jancey, C McCann (C), B Jamieson, J Callaghan, A Halliday, A Rae, C Wallace

Replacements: C Nicholson, R Hetherington, N Coupland, J Kirby, A Torbett, D Wyllie

Meet at Violetbank at 11.45am for a 1pm KO.

All Supporters please note the earlier KO time. This is to accommodate Arran’s requirements re ferry times.

MEERKATS FINALLY BEAT THE GRIZZLIES
1ST MAY 2016

THE WINNING STREAK IS OVER

The annual end of season (...usually end of season!) match between the Grizzlies and the Meerkats was the usual high scoring affair .The Grizzlies went into the match with a 100% winning record of played 4 won 4.

However some great play by the Meerkats meant they took a 21-0 lead into half time and a big Meerkats win was looking on the cards - but a 4 try onslaught from the Grizzlies Gav Lynch (and a conversion from Niall Smith) took the Grizzlies into the lead 22-21 with 20 minutes to go.

However in the last 15, the younger fitter Meerkats hit back and scored 2 further tries to take the lead and the win 35-22.

So the Grizzlies winning run is over! - Well done to the Meerkats!

Meerkats Scorers: Yousef Sahib (3 tries), James Kirby (try), Logan Johnstone (try) and 5 conversions from Cairn Wallace.

1ST XV ON SATURDAY/MEERKATS V GRIZZLIES ON SUNDAY
30TH APRIL/1ST MAY 2016

TOUGH FIXTURE FOR THE 1ST XV

Annan welcome Clydebank to Annan for the 3rd time and to Violetbank for the 2nd time this Saturday. The clubs first met back in 1995 during our season in National Division 4. Annan won a very tight encounter 18-13 at the Everholm.

We also won the return fixture, again only just, winning 16-12. The clubs then had to wait 17 years before meeting again in West 2 in 2012. The results were a bit more one sided with Annan winning both of them 45-5 (in Clydebank) and then 36-0 (at Violetbank)

The clubs’ last meeting was 4 weeks ago in Clydebank when Annan ran out 22-0 winners. Clydebank will be aiming to continue their very impressive run of late and end their away season on a high.

Clydebank are having a great 2nd half of the season, winning 7 of their last 8 league games. Their only defeat in that run was to Annan in the 22-0 away win four weeks ago.

Clydebank look like a certainty for 3rd spot this season and will be no doubt be aiming to do better next year and challenging either Stewartry or Annan for the promotion spot (or spots!). Which team could be determined by the end of the 80 minutes on Saturday!

This is looking like Annan toughest game of the season - so your support would be very appreciated!

Annan 1st XV Squad: R Martin, K Warrick, C Nicholson, M Thompson, C White, D Nordon, D Barnes, S Haren, A Rae, C McCann (C), B Jamieson, J Callaghan, A Halliday, J Kirby, C Wallace

Replacements: R Glass, R Hetherington, A Clark, D Wyllie, W Gray, N Coupland, C Bell

Meet at Violetbank at 1.45pm for 3pm KO.

ANNAN RFC’S LADIES DAY AND ‘GRIZZLIES’ V ‘MEERKATS’ MATCH ON SUNDAY

On Sunday Annan RFC celebrate with their Ladies Day at Violetbank featuring the Annual ‘Grizzlies’ v ‘Meerkats’ match for the Sarah ‘Our Bella’ Bell Happy Memories Trophy.

This annual fixture has over the years become a hugely entertaining event with Annan RFC’s past, present and future on display.

The ‘Meerkats’ have been edging closer to a win over the years and maybe this will be their year.

KO 3pm.

ANOTHER BONUS POINT WIN FOR THE 1ST XV
23RD APRIL 2016

THE 1ST XV BEAT CUMBERNAULD IN THEIR LATEST WEST 2 LEAGUE GAME

The 1st XV get another bonus point win but were made to work all the way by a determined Cumbernauld side who wanted to lay to rest the scoreline in the previous meeting between the teams.

Annan started brightly in the initial stages of the first half and led 12-0 after 10 minutes thanks to tries from Andrew Jancey and Callum Bell. Craig McCann with one conversion.

Cumbernauld hit back with a well worked try before a great try from Cairn Wallace, converted by Captain McCann, made it 19-5.

If the Annan support thought that this might open up the floodgates, Cumbernauld hit back with a converted try to take it to 19-12 after 20 minutes.

Annan however secured the bonus point thanks to a Sean Haren try again converted by McCann.

Cumbernauld upped their game again and Annan were penalised in their own 22 and a successful penalty from Cumbernauld made it 26-15 with 10 minutes remaining in the half and thats how the half ended.

In the second half, a great early try from Alex Halliday increased the Annan lead to 31-15 and settled some of the Annan supporters nerves!

On the 55 minute mark, Bruce Jamieson was next to score for Annan, duly converted by McCann to take the game out of Cumbernaulds reach.

Adam Torbett and Callum Bell, with this 2nd try of the day, made the score 50-15 with 10 minutes to go. McCann again with the conversion.

And thats how it ended. So another 5 points for Annan.

Annan now take on Clydebank next week at Violetbank in another crucial West 2 game!

Match Report / Match Photos

THE 2ND XV ALSO WIN

Annan 2nds XV made it a double for the club with a convincing 13 try demolition of their hosts in this friendly at Auchenkilns.

Annan’s points came from tries from Captain Scott Muir (3), Logan Johnstone (2), Danny McClure (2), Mark Clark (2), Callum Smith, Jack Graham, Ryan Hetherington, Steven Clark with conversion by Scott Muir (3) and Logan Johnstone.

BOTH TEAMS OFF TO CUMBERNAULD THIS SATURDAY
23RD APRIL 2016

THE 1ST XV TRAVEL TO CUMBERNAULD IN LAST AWAY LEAGUE FIXTURE

Annan travel to Auchenkilns for the 4th time at 1st XV level and play them for the 7th time overall. The first meeting was back in 1995 in the inaugural SRU Cup competition at Cumbernauld. Annan won that game 28-23 with tries from Alastair 'Babe' Graham, Dougie Thompson, Gogs Carmichael and Mark Hollis.

The clubs met in National Division 3 the following season. Annan won both those encounters. And like most teams in West 2 it seems the clubs met again last time Annan were in West 2 back in the 2012/13 season. Annan again won both encounters on our way to the league championship.

The clubs met this season at Violetbank when Annan recorded their record win. Cumbernauld came down that day with the bare 15 and had recruited some older/retired players to make up the numbers.

The scoreline was in no way a reflection of the effort put in and it was good to see that Cumbernauld are a club that just want to play rugby and didn't call off despite their weakened team.

Cumbernauld are having a season of 2 halves! They started with a record of played 6 won 4 to be up near the top but a run of 9 defeats on the trot was only stopped last week after a great win away to the Isle of Arran. They currently lie in 8th spot. It is between them and Strathendrick for the last relegation spot.

After last Saturdays shaky (initially!) win over Paisley, it’s as you were for Annan as Stewartry also picked up a 5 point win over Waysiders. They are away to McLaren this weekend. After this weekend’s games, Stewartry will not play again for 3 weeks while Annan play every week in between.

So as it is for every remaining game for Annan, a win and try bonus is required as only 1 promotion spot is available for West 2 teams this year.

Cumbernauld will be wanting to put behind them the last meeting and secure their place in West 2 for next year.

Annan 1st XV Squad: R Glass, K Warrick, C Nicholson, M Thompson, D Nordon, C White, C Bell, S Haren A Jancey, C McCann, J Kirby, D Wyllie, A Halliday, B Jamieson, C Wallace

Replacements: W Gray, N Coupland, R Martin, A Torbett

Meet at Clubhouse at 11.30am for 3pm KO

ANNAN 2NDS ALSO TRAVEL TO CUMBERNAULD FOR FRIENDLY

Annan’s second string also travel to Auchenkilns to take on Cumbernauld 2nds in a friendly.

Annan 2nd XV Squad from: R Hetherinton, D Ryan, I Thorburn, L Trussler, C Taylor, C Smith, J Graham, L Johnstone, S Muir (C), R MacGregor, C Wilson, D McLure, S Clark, C Rudd, L Stannus

Meet at Clubhouse at 11.30am for 3pm KO

THE 1ST XV WIN, AND WIN WITH A TRY BONUS
16TH APRIL 2016

BIG WIN FOR THE 1ST XV

The 1st XV get another crucial win, with a bonus point, to continue their unbeaten league run.

In the early exchanges in the 1st half, it was Paisley that looked like the team challenging for the one West 2 promotion spot and after 30 minutes Paisley were 10-0 up.

The Annan boys regrouped and thanks to tries from Callum Nicholson and Jonny Callaghan Annan ended up leading at half time 12-10. Craig McCann with 1 conversion.

In the second, Annan stepped up a gear and tries from Adam Torbett and Sean Haren gave Annan a 24-10 lead with 15 minutes to go. Craig McCann with another conversion. Seans try gave Annan a try bonus.

With 10 to go - a Jonny Callaghan try put the game out of Paisleys reach. Craig again with the conversion

Paisley didn't give up and a late try from them made it 17 v 31 with 4 to go but Annan hit back with another Jonny Callaghan try and Craig conversion to make it 38-17.

Full Time: Paisley 17 v Annan 1st XV 38.

5 points to Annan who now travel to Cumbernauld next week in another crucial West 2 game (aren't they all!).....its going to be a interesting and nervy last 5 games for the Annan players and supporters!

2NDS XV ALSO WIN

The 2nd XV also won, beating old friends Creighton RFC 15-12.

The Annan points coming from Nathan Smith (2T) and Ryan Hetherington (T)

WEEKEND TEAM NEWS
16TH APRIL 2016

ANNAN TRAVEL TO ANCHOR PARK TO TAKE ON PAISLEY

Paisley RFC are having a poor season by their standards. They are safe from relegation but have been out of the championship race for a number of months. At home they have a record of played 6 won 4, lost 2, and have dished out a number of big defeats on their opponents. Paisley will be up to making that 5 wins from 7 on Saturday!

After last week’s postponement, Annan are still the same 14 points behind Stewartry but with 3 games in hand. One thing that was 95% settled last week is that it looks like only 1 team will be promoted from West 2 this year. As it stands, assuming Stewartry win their last 3 games (with try bonuses), Annan need to win their last 6 (all with try bonuses) to clinch the only promotion spot by 1 point. It’s going to be an interesting run in!

Annan travel to Paisley for only the second time at 1st XV level having only played there once back in April 1996. Annan won that day 46-8. The teams actually met for the first time earlier in the same season at the Everholm, Annan winning that meeting 45-10. The third and last meeting was at the start of this season at Violetbank which Annan won 72-19.

Annan 1st XV Squad: R Martin, C Bell, C Nicholson, M Thompson, C White, A Clark, D Barnes, S Haren, A Jancey, C McCann (C), B Jamieson, J Callaghan, D Wyllie, W Gray, C Wallace

WEEKEND TEAM NEWS
9TH APRIL 2016

ANNAN WELCOME MCLAREN TO VIOLETBANK

STOP PRESS: Game is POSTPONED as McLaren can not raise a team.

Annan welcome McLaren to Violetbank for the second time at 1st XV level. The clubs first met at 1st XV level back in February 1992 in a Glasgow District 2 league game. Annan won that game 33-3 on our way to our 1st league title.

The clubs then had to wait until the 2012/13 season until meeting again. This was the last time Annan were back in West 2. Annan won both games (21-3 at Violetbank and 45-3 at McLaren) on the way to the league title.

The clubs last meeting was this season when they played out a 25-25 draw away at McLaren. A game of 2 halves if ever there was one, with McLaren taking a 22-6 lead into half time, Annan scoring 19 points to take the lead with minutes to go but then McLaren kicking a last second penalty to get the draw.

A big game for both teams, Annan need a bonus point win to keep Stewartry in check while McLaren will be wanting to get back to the form that they had at the start of the season.

Annan 1st XV Squad: R Martin, K Warrick, C Nicholson, M Thompson, D Nordon, A Clark, C Bell, S Haren, A Jancey, C McCann, B Jamieson, J Callaghan, D Wyllie, A Rae, C Wallace

WEEKEND TEAM NEWS
2ND APRIL 2016

ANNAN WELCOME CUMNOCK TO VIOLETBANK FOR FIRST TIME

Annan welcome Cumnock to Annan and Violetbank for the first time at 1st XV level. Both teams first met at 1st XV level back in October 1992 in a Glasgow District 2 league game. Annan won that game 59-19 on our way to the title.

Annan then had to wait until this season to meet again in the BT Shield and the league. Annan recorded 2 wins (59-17 and 18-11). The 18 -11 was a nervy affair and only a late try from Dwayne Barnes secured the victory.

So Annan currently have a 100% record v Cumnock and hope to keep up this record on Saturday.

Cumnock will be looking to keep their season alive with a win, while Annan need to assume that Stewartry will get a 5 pointer (away to McLaren) so Annan need to match that.

Annan 1st XV Squad: R Glass, C Bell, R Martin, M Thompson, C White, A Clark, D Barnes, S Haren, A Jancey, C McCann, B Jamieson, J Callaghan, D Wyllie, A Rae, C Wallace

Meet at Violetbank at 1.45pm for 3pm start.

1ST XV WIN AGAIN
26TH MARCH 2016

NERVY GAME BUT 1ST XV WIN BUT ALAS NO BONUS POINT

After last weeks record breaking exploits, at half time in the game v inform Clydebank it looked like it could a low scoring affair with the only points being a Craig McCann penalty on the 35th minute.

However in the 2nd half, the players upped their game and 3 tries from Dave Wyllie, Callum Bell and Christian White made the score 22-0. McCann with 2 conversions

So with 15 minutes to go, the team pressed to secure the win and get the bonus point try.

Despite sustained pressure the Clydebank defence didn't buckle for a 4th time and Annan had to settle for the 4 points.

Annan now have 2 home games in a row v Cumnock and then McLaren to try and keep up the pressure on league leaders Stewartry.

After a poor start to the season, Clydebank are one of the inform teams in West 2 of BT Regional leagues. Currently in 4th spot, after a poor start to the season (losing 4 from 5) they are currently on a run of 5 wins from 6. At home Clydebank have only been beaten by Stewartry (12-7) and even when you look at their defeats at the start of the season it was usually just by a score. (19-14, 23-10, 13-12. 26-13).

The 26-13 defeat was Clydebanks biggest loss of the season....it was away to Stewartry so that’s not actually a bad scoreline! After last week’s club record win v Cumbernauld you would think Annan might have closed the gap on Stewartry but alas Annan are still 18 points behind Stewartry but do still have 4 games in hand.

So Annan need a bonus point win to keep up the pressure, but away to Clydebank is perhaps the hardest place in the league to a) win and b) score 4 tries!

Annan travel to Clydebank for only the 3rd time at 1st XV level. In total Annan have played the Dunbartonshire club 4 times. The clubs first met at 1st XV level back in September 1995 at Violetbank in a National Division 4 league game. Annan won that game 18-13. We also won the return leg 16-12.

Annan then had to wait until the 2012/13 season, when Annan were last in West 2, for their next meetings. Annan again won both games on our way to the West 2 title. (45-5 away and 34-0 at home).

So Annan currently have a 100% record v Clydebank and hope to keep up this record on Saturday. It’s going to be a big ask against inform Clydebank! Clydebank will be looking to keep up their winning form and put some pressure on 3rd placed Cumnock. 2nd place is still a possibility especially if Annan hit a poor patch!

Annan 1st XV Squad: R Glass, K Warrick, C White, M Thompson, D Nordon, A Clark, D Barnes, S Haren, C McCann, C Wallace, W Gray, J Callaghan, A Halliday, D Wyllie, B Jamieson

Replacements: C Nicholson, C Bell, J Kirby

BONUS POINT WIN FOR THE 1ST XV
19TH MARCH 2016

23 TRY BLITZ AND NEW CLUB RECORD FOR ANNAN

The 1st XV beat Cumbernauld 149 v 13 in their latest BT West 2 league game.

A late kick off (2.30pm) as the referee was delayed but this did not affect Annan as they scored 6 tries inside 25 minutes to kill the game off.

The Annan tries were from Jonny Callaghan (2), Cairn Wallace (2), Kieran Warrick and Michael Thompson. Captain Craig McCann kicked 4 conversions.

Angus Clark claimed his first try for Annan before Jonny Callaghan collected his hatrick, Alan Rae added another and Dwayne Barnes also scored. Craig McCann kicked all 4 conversions. Cain Wallace collected his hatrick on the stroke of half time.

Cumbernauld kicked 2 penalties to make the half time score: Annan 71 v Cumbernauld 6

In the 2nd half it was more of the same.

First on the score board was Captain McCann. With further tries from Cairn Wallace, Sean Haren, Willie Gray (2), James Kirby, Jonny Callaghan (2), Christian White, Alex Halliday (2) and Neal Coupland (phew!)

Craig McCann kicked a further 9 conversions.

Cumbernauld scored a converted consolation try.

Final Score: Annan 149 v Cumbernauld 13

This was a record win for Annan beating the 148-14 v Falkirk win from back in 1996!

Credit to Cumbernauld who came short of substitutes but battled all game.

Annan now travel to Clydebank next Saturday to continue their quest for promotion.

1ST XV AT HOME THIS WEEKEND
19TH MARCH 2016

ANNAN 1ST XV WELCOME CUMBERNAULD TO VIOLETBANK

Annan welcome Cumbernauld to Annan for only the 3rd time at 1st XV level and the 2nd time to Violetbank.

Cumbernauld started the season with a bang, winning 4 of their first 6 games and looked like promotion contenders. Unfortunately they have since lost their last 5 league games and currently sit in 7th. Like most teams in West 2, the weather has not helped matters with Cumbernauld only playing 3 times since late November. Not ideal when you are trying to get back to winning ways!

Cumbernauld will be desperate to halt their losing streak and put some daylight between them and the relegation spots. Annan need to keep up the pressure on leaders Stewartry (who have a tough trip to the Isle of Arran) if they want to go up to West 1 at champions.

Annan 1st XV Squad: R Glass, K Warrick, R Martin, M Thompson, D Nordon, D Barnes, C Bell, S Haren, A Jancey, C McCann (C), B Jamieson, J Callaghan, D Wyllie, A Rae, C Wallace

Replacements: C Nicholson, J Nelson, A Clark, C White, N Coupland, W Gray, J Kirby.

Meet at Violetbank at 12.45pm for a 2pm kick off.

The earlier KO is to enable the players of both teams to repair to the clubhouse to watch the Ireland v Scotland Six Nations International.

CURRENTLY NO GAMES FOR THE 2 SENIOR TEAMS THIS WEEKEND
12TH MARCH 2016

GAMES OFF BUT REPLACEMENTS BEING SOUGHT

Annan two senior sides have currently been left without games this weekend as Waysiders Drumpellier who were due to play at Violetbank in West 2 of BT Regional Leagues have called off as they are unable to raise a team

Annan 2nds are likewise left without a fixture as Marr 3rds are unable to raise a team to travel to Annan in West 2A of BT Regional Leagues.

Currently replacement teams are being sought.

THE 1ST XV PICK UP ANOTHER WIN
5TH MARCH 2016

WIN BUT NO BONUS POINT FOR THE 1ST XV

The 1st XV win but only just, beating Strathendrick 17-7 in their latest league game.

Tries from David Wyllie and Cairn Wallace. The other points from the boot of Captain Craig McCann (2C, 1P)

BONUS POINT BUT NO WIN FOR THE 2ND XV

Third placed Annan 2nds travelled to Memorial Field to take on fourth placed Ardrossan Accies 2nds in West 2A of BT Reserve Regional leagues and whilst well beaten 41 – 26 came away with a 4 try bonus point.

Annan’s tries were scored by Ryan Hetherington (2), Leighton Trussler and Steven Clark. Scott Muir added 3 conversions.

BOTH TEAMS ON THEIR TRAVELS THIS WEEKEND
5TH MARCH 2016

THE 1ST XV TRAVEL TO FINTRY IN THE LEAGUE

Annan take to the road on Saturday when they travel to at Fintry. Strathendrick are having a tough season and are currently 2nd bottom of BT West Division 2 with a record of played 13 won 2. At home, however, Strathendrick have played 6 and won 2 and with the exception of a heavy defeat by league leaders Stewartry at the start of the season (which most teams in the league have suffered!), have either won or lost their home games by just a score or two.

Annan’s last league game was back on the 23rd January and have only played in the final of the BT West Shield v Carrick. In the meantime, league leaders Stewartry have extended their lead at the top but have a tough home game v McLaren on Saturday. So it’s going to be an interesting game at Ruth Menzies Field as Strathendrick are slowly finding a bit of form and Annan on their travels in the league this season have never matched their home form.

Annan have met Strathendrick 4 times at 1st XV level and Annan currently have a 100% record. This will be only Annan’s second visit to Strathendrick. The teams first met back in 1993 in Glasgow District 1 with Annan securing a 30-10 home victory. Annan then had to wait 20 years before meeting again. Annan won the 2 meetings that season on our way to the RBS West 2 title.

Our most recent meeting was this season when we won 36-0 at Violetbank. Strathendrick need to pick up some wins as games are running out for them (having played the most in the league so far - 8 games more that bottom placed Isle of Arran!).

Annan, as always, need to keep on winning to try and stay with league leaders Stewartry.

Annan 1st XV Squad: R Glass, K Warrick, R Martin, M Thompson, J Nelson, D Barnes, D Nordon, S Haren, A Jancey, C McCann (C), B Jamieson, J Callaghan, D Wyllie, A Rae, C Wallace

Replacements: C Nicholson, A Clark, J Kirby, W Gray

STOP PRESS: The 2nd XV go down heavily 50-15 to Greenock

Annan 2nds welcome top of the table Greenock Wanderers 2nds to Violetbank on Saturday. Annan sit second in the BT West 2A Reserve League some 11 points adrift of leaders Greenock Wanderers albeit with 3 games in hand.

Annan 2nd XV Squad from: M Carpenter, C Smith, John Ward, I Thorburn, C Warrick, M Crombie, L Ogilvie, G Williamson, S Clark, M Thorburn, Joe Ward, S Muir (C), A Allison, L Johnstone, N Coupland, L Jamieson, R Martin, C Wilson, J Graham, L Tussler, S Livingstone, L Stannus.

ANNAN GO DOWN IN IRVINE
20TH FEBRUARY 2016

WEST 1 CARRICK TOO STRONG FOR ANNAN

Annan go down 28-5 in their BT West Shield final to Carrick.

Annan started strongly and took the lead in the 10th minute through a well worked Andrew Jancey try. That alas was the last of the scoring for Annan.

At half time it was 10-5 to Carrick and in the second half, despite some good pressure from Annan, West 1 Carrick ran in 2 more tries to win 28-5.

So congratulations to Carrick as they move onwards to the BT Shield semi finals. Unlucky lads, next year!

Match Report

ANNAN TRAVEL TO MAYBOLE ON SATURDAY FOR FINAL OF BT WEST SHIELD FINAL
20TH FEBRUARY 2016

BT WEST REGIONAL SHIELD FINAL

STOP PRESS: CHANGE OF VENUE AND KO FOR TOMORROWS FINAL

The game tomorrow has been moved to Irvine RFC with a 3pm KO as pitch at Maybole is unplayable.

Bus will now leave Bank St at 11am.

Please Note: There is now no lunch etc due to change of venue.

After of disposing of Cumnock (West 2), Kilmarnock (West 1), and Oban Lorne (West 1) Annan’s opponents in the BT West Regional Shield Final are West 1 Carrick.

Carrick are having a great season so far, currently lying in 3rd place behind undefeated Glasgow Accies and Newton Stewart. They have only lost 3 games in the league this season, to Glasgow Accies twice and Newton Stewart.

On the road to the final Carrick got their revenge on the teams that have beaten them in the league by knocking them out. Newton Stewart in the 1st round and then Glasgow Accies in the Semi Final.

Annan are also having a great season in West 2. Currently undefeated all season in league and Shield with only 1 draw to spoil the 100% record. Carrick go into this final as massive favourites and home advantage just adds to the pressure on Annan. But Annan beat a couple of West 1 teams on the way to the final and know what they have to do if they want to continue on the trail to Murrayfield.

Annan travel to Maybole to take on Carrick for the 6th time at 1st XV level. Annan have a record of won 2, lost 3. The clubs first met back in 1992 when Annan were in the Glasgow District 1 league. Carrick won this game 15-13 – Annan’s only defeat on the way to the league title! Annan had to wait 20 years before meeting again. This time in West 2. Annan won both encounters, 20-13 and 32-5 on our way to our last league title!

The last time the teams met was last season on West 1. We lost the first encounter by a few points(!) and then lost the home leg 33-13 on our way to being relegated! So a fast and furious game is guaranteed. Both teams will be well up for this game. A win means you are one step closer to walking out on the hallowed turf of Murrayfield.

Annan 1st XV Squad: R Glass, C Bell, C Nicholson, D Nordon, M Thompson, D Barnes, E Braid, S Haren, A Rae, C McCann, B Jamieson, J Callaghan, D Wyllie, C Wallace, A Jancey

Replacements: J Nelson, K Warwick, R Hetherington, J Kirby.

Meet at Clubhouse at 10.45am for 11am departure.

WEEKEND TEAM NEWS
30TH JANUARY 2016

ANNAN AT HOME TO MCLAREN

STOP PRESS: The game v McLaren is POSTPONED due to the travelling conditions for the McLaren team. The 1st XV team will now join the 2nd XV team for a squad game in Dumfries. KO: 14.00

Weather permitting Annan will welcome McLaren to Violetbank on Saturday in West 2 of the BT Regional Leagues. McLaren started the season on fire, winning 5 from 5 and looking like promotion certainties.

However the last 3 games have been a mixed bag with 2 defeats and 1 draw and they currently lie in 4th place in the league. Like most teams in West 2, McLaren have had a lack of games over the past 3 months. This game will be McLarens first game in 6 weeks!

After last weeks win, Annan consolidated their 2nd place spot and with 2 games in hand can still overtake Stewartry to the top spot. For McLaren a win on Saturday will get their promotion ambitions back on track as it could leave them only 4 points off 2nd with 9 games to go.

Annan 1st XV Squad: R Glass, C Bell, R Martin, M Thompson, D Nordon, D Barnes, E Braid, S Haren, A Rae, C McCann (C), W Gray, J Callaghan, D Wyllie, B Jamieson, C Wallace

Replacements: C Nicholson, J Nelson, K Warrick, N Coupland, J Kirby.

Meet at Violetbank at 12.45pm for a 2pm KO.

WIN FOR THE 1ST XV
23RD JANUARY 2016

THE 1ST XV WIN.....JUST

The 1st XV get a nervy win over Cumnock in their latest West 2 game

The lead changed hands on numerous occasions and Annan lead 5-3 at half time through a well worked Bruce Jamieson try.

In the 2nd half a try from Sean Haren put Annan into a 10-6 lead but Cumnock hit back with a try of their own to make it 11-10.

With 10 minutes to go, Captain Craig McCann slotted over a penalty and Annan were leading 13-11.

In injury time a Dwayne Barnes try sealed the win and the points were Annans....phew!

THE 2ND XV THUMP CUMNOCK

The 2nd XV get a great 61-5 win over Cumnock in their friendly game. Well played lads.

ONLY THE 1ST XV HAVE A GAME AT THE MOMENT
23RD JANUARY 2016

ANNAN TRAVEL TO BROOMFIELD IN LEAGUE

Annan travel to Cumnock to take on Cumnock in West 2 of the BT Regional Leagues on Saturday. Cumnock are having a great season and are currently in 2nd place with a played 9 won 6 record. They currently have a played 4 won 4 record at home so will be looking to extend that 100% record versus 3rd placed Annan.

With no teams playing last week it’s as you were in West 2, so Annan are still 12 points off league leaders Stewartry but with 3 games in hand, Annan will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to keep up with Stewartry.

Annan travel to Cumnock for only the 3rd time at 1st XV level. It was back in 1992 that Annan first met Cumnock in the league during Annan’s one year stint in Glasgow Division 2. Annan won that day 59-19. They then had to wait 23 years before meeting again! This was earlier in the season when Annan met Cumnock in the BT West Shield. Annan ran out 59-17 winners.

Despite the earlier defeat by Annan, this will be one of Annan’s toughest games to date. Cumnock are a hard team to beat at home in the league and Annan on their travels have not always clicked as well as they do when at home.

Annan 1st XV Squad: R Glass, C Bell, R Martin, M Thompson, D Nordon, D Barnes, E Braid, S Haren, A Jancey, C McCann (C), B Jamieson, J Callaghan, D Wyllie, N Coupland, C Wallace

Replacements: R Hetherington, J Nelson, K Warrick, A Rae, W Gray, J Kirby.

Meet at Clubhouse at 11.30am for a 2pm KO.

A bus will now also be laid on. Leaving Bank Street at the slightly earlier time of 11.00am.

GAME ON FOR THE 2ND XV

The 2nds now have a game on Saturday against Cumnock 2nd XV.

As it's now a double header and after discussion with the coaches, the club are putting a bus on to take both teams and anyone who wants to go to support.

The bus will leave about 11am from Bank Street.

Please note the earlier departure for the bus.

BOTH SENIOR TEAMS ON THE ROAD THIS WEEKEND
16TH JANUARY 2016

ANNAN TRAVEL TO CUMBERNAULD IN LEAGUE

STOP PRESS: Game is POSTPONED as pitch is frozen.

Annan travel up the M74 on Saturday to Auchenkilns to take on Cumbernauld in West 2 of BT Regional Leagues. Cumbernauld are having an up and down season so far. They started off the season with all guns blazing and won 3 from 4 but since then their form has dipped somewhat and they have just won 1 from the next 5. They currently lie in 5th place in the league.

Cumbernauld do not travel well, having lost all of their games on the road but, until last week’s defeat by Cumnock, they were unbeaten at home. With Annan not playing last week due to the weather, this allowed Stewartry, who picked up another win, to move 12 points clear at the top however Annan do still have 3 games in hand.

Annan 1st XV Squad: R Martin, C Bell, C Nicholson, M Thompson, D Nordon, D Barnes, E Braid, S Haren, A Jancey, C McCann (C), B Jamieson, J Callaghan, D Wyllie, W Gray, C Wallace

Replacements: J Nelson, K Warrick, N Coupland, J Kirby

ANNAN WELCOME ISLE OF ARRAN TO VIOLETBANK

STOP PRESS: Alas the 1st and 2nd XV games are off due to the weather conditions.

This season, due to the weather, Isle of Arran are lacking in completed matches in the West 2 Division of the BT Regional Leagues. Currently in the league they have only managed to complete 4 games and are bottom.

It would be surprising if Arran end up bottom though as they are only 3 points behind Strathendrick who have played 7 more games! The only home game Arran have played was also the last game they played and that happened to be against Annan on the 24th October 2015.

Annan will be hoping to get back to their winning ways on Saturday after their defeat by Dumfries in the A.A. MacPherson Memorial Trophy fixture last Monday.

Annan 1st XV Squad: R Glass, K Warrick, R Martin, M Thompson, D Nordon, D Barnes, E Braid, S Haren, A Rae, C McCann (C), B Jamieson, J Callaghan, D Wyllie, W Gray, A Jancey

Congratulations to Dumfries on the win and retaining the A.A. MacPherson Memorial Trophy.

Waysiders hit back on the stoke of half time to make it 19-5.

In the seconds half, a Sean Haren try secured the bonus point and a further try from Alex Halliday confirmed the win. Craig McCann kicked the conversions and a last minute penalty. Waysiders scored two late interception tries to make the final score 36-17.

Annan move up to 2nd spot as McLarens game was postponed.

WEEKEND TEAM NEWS
19TH DECEMBER 2015

ANNAN TRAVEL ON LEAGUE BUSINESS TO COATBRIDGE

Annan travel to Langloan in Coatbridge on Saturday to take on Waysiders Drumpellier in West 2 of BT Regional Leagues.

Waysiders Drumpellier, like Annan, have had a lack of completed league fixtures this season with only five being completed. Waysiders last game was back on the November 7th!

They did however win this game, 22-5 v Strathendrick, and have a decent home record of played 3 won 2 and came within 10 points in the 3rd.

They have lost both away games heavily though and are currently lying in 8th position in the league.

Annan’s last game was also a few weeks ago, back on the 28th November so both teams will be going into this game a little ring rusty! Annan hopefully a little less so as they have at least played 3 games since Waysiders’ last game!

Annan 1st XV Squad: R Martin, K Warrick, C Nicholson, J Nelson, M Thompson, D Nordon, E Braid, S Haren, A Jancey, C McCann (C), B Jamieson, J Callaghan, A Halliday, A Rae, A Torbett.

Replacements: R Heatherington, D Wyllie, N Coupland, W Gray, A Allison, J Kirby, C Smith.

Meet at Clubhouse at11am for a 2pm KO.

WEEKEND TEAM NEWS
12TH DECEMBER 2015

ANNAN WELCOME CLYDEBANK TO VIOLETBANK IN WEST 2 ENCOUNTER

STOP PRESS: Alas the game v Clydebank is now OFF as Violetbank is waterlogged.

Clydebank have had an up and down season so far. They currently lie in 6th spot with a played 6, won 2 record. It’s a bit of a false position however as 5 of the 6 league games have been away from home and, of the 4 away defeats, Clydebank have been within a try to win thrice . Their biggest defeat was 26-13 at Stewartry. Not many teams will get as close to Stewartry at the Greenlaw this season!

Their only game at home was a 54-6 thumping of Isle of Arran. A team we struggled against earlier in the season. With no games last week in West 2, Annan remain in 3rd. Current promotion rivals Stewartry have a home game v Strathendrick and McLaren are at home to Paisley.

Annan 1st XV Squad: R Martin, K Warrick, C Nicholson, D Nordon, M Thompson, D Barnes, E Braid, S Haren, A Jancey, C McCann(C), B Jamieson, D Wyllie, A Halliday, A Rae, A Torbett

Replacements: J Nelson, N Coupland, W Gray, M Carpenter

Meet at Violetbank at 12.45pm for 2pm KO.

ANNAN 2NDS AWAY TO ARDROSSAN

STOP PRESS: Alas the game v Ardrossanis now OFF as their pitch is waterlogged.

Annan 2nds travel to Memorial Field to take on 3rd placed Ardrossan Accies 2nds on Saturday in BT West 2A of the Regional Reserve Leagues. Annan currently sit in 2nd place in the league so a tough game is in prospect.

Annan 2nd XV Squad from: R Hetherington, M Crombie, C Park, G Williamson, I Thorburn, AN Other, C Smith, J Ward, S Muir (C), A Allison, J Wyllie, D Fergusson, C Wilson, S Clark, J Kirby, J Graham, Z Lockerbie, Joe Ward, R Macgregor.

1ST XV AWAY, 2ND XV HOST GREENOCK
5TH DECEMBER 2015

ANNAN OFF TO PAISLEY IN BT WEST 2 REGIONAL LEAGUES

STOP PRESS: Alas the game v Paisley is now OFF as their pitch is waterlogged.

Paisley have not had the best start to the season with postponements and games called off. Currently they have only played 4 games and are sitting in 8th with a played 4 won 2 lost 2 record. After losing their first 2 games (away to Annan and Stewartry) Paisley thumped Cumnock and then Strathendrick (both in Paisley) - scoring 16 tries in the process. Paisley might be 8th but are one of the inform teams in the league.

Annan are now up to 3rd after their bonus point win last weekend v Strathendrick. Annan are still 8 points behind leaders Stewartry but have 2 games in hand. Going to be a great game as Paisley are formidable at home and Annan on their travels this season in the league have struggled to match their home form.

Annan 1st XV Squad: R Martin, K Warrick, C Nicholson, D Nordon, M Thompson, D Barnes, E Braid, S Haren, A Rae, C McCann (C), B Jamieson, A Torbett, J Callaghan, D Wyllie, A Jancey.

Replacements: J Nelson, W Gray, N Coupland.

Meet at clubhouse at 11am for a 2pm KO.

ANNAN 2ND XV AT HOME TO GREENOCK WANDERERS

STOP PRESS: Alas the 2nd XV game v Greenock is now OFF as Violetbank is waterlogged.

In the second half, it was much of the same.

Alas there was an early injury blow for Annan as Callum Bell was taken off injured with a suspected dislocated shoulder.

The teams traded possession without scoring until the 65th and then 67th minute when Captain Craig McCann kicked 2 penalties to make it 9-3 to Annan.

In a tense final 15 minutes, the teams again came close on numerous occasions but it ended 9-3.

THE 1STS DRAW THE 2NDS WIN
14TH NOVEMBER 2015

THE 1ST REMAIN UNBEATEN

The 1st XV drew with McLaren RFC 25-25 in a match played in Stirling.

Annan started off very slowly and were down 22-6 at half time. In the 2nd half, Annan turned it around and scored 19 points to take a 25-22 lead with 1 minute to go. Alas they conceded a penalty in the dying seconds and McLaren took the draw.

The Annan points coming from: Callum Bell (T), Adam Torbett (T) and Craig McCann (4P, 1DG)

Twas a very scrappy game. Annan dominated the 2nd half but managed to spoil numerous overlaps and chances. It was the 1st XV's first game in 3 weeks and it showed!

Annan now have an easy game next week when they travel to league leaders and local rivals Stewartry! Who said rugby was easy!

WEEKEND TEAM NEWS
14TH NOVEMBER 2015

ANNAN TRAVEL TO CALLANDER ON SATURDAY IN WEST 2 OF BT REGIONAL LEAGUES

Annan travel to Callander on Saturday to take on McLaren for only the 4th time at a 1st XV level. This will be Annan’s 3rd visit to Callander. Annan first played McLaren back in 1992 when we were in Glasgow District 2. Annan won 33-3 that day.

Annan then had to wait until the last time they were in West 2 (back in 2012/13) when we won both encounters. That was the season where we won all 22 league games on the way to be West 2 Champions. McLaren were league leaders and undefeated until last weekend when they lost both titles as they were beaten 22-21 by Cumbernauld.

Annan are now the only undefeated team in the league, however (due to their BT Shield run and recent league postponements) have only played three games so far in the league!

So its 2nd v 5th and with current league leaders Stewartry taking on 4th spot Cumbernauld it’s a game where a win for McLaren could take them back to the top while a win for Annan could take us up to 4th.

It’s going to be a tough old game - with McLaren trying to get back to winning ways after last week’s defeat while Annan will be trying to get another league victory under their belts!

Annan will then travel to Stewartry the following week for another hard hard game!

Annan 1st XV Squad: R Martin, K Warrick, C Nicholson, D Nordon, M Thompson, C Bell, E Braid, S Haren, C McCann (C), C Wallace, A Torbett, J Callaghan, W Gray, N Coupland, A Jancey.

Replacements: J Nelson, D Barnes, D Wyllie, B Jamieson

Meet 10.30am for a 2pm kick off.

THE FIRSTS WIN BUT ONLY JUST
24TH OCTOBER 2015

ANNAN MAINTAIN THEIR 100% RECORD

Annan 1st XV kept up their 100% start to the season in the league and cup with a 15 v 11 win over Arran.

After a 5 hour bus/ferry journey you would have thought Annan would have been slow out of the blocks but this was not the case as Craig McCann and then Callum Bell ran in tries to give Annan a 12-0 lead after 8 minutes!

But that seemed to waken up Arran, whose were making their home debut after playing 4 games on the road, as they pulled a try back and after trading penalties the half ended 15-8.

The 2nd half was much of the same, but this time Arran scored first with a penalty to make it 11-15.

And that was the scoring ended for the 2nd half!

Annan get the win but were made to work for it!

The other Annan points coming from the boot of Captain Craig McCann (1P 1C)

17TH OCTOBER 2015

THE 1ST XV MARCH INTO THE FINAL

The 1st XV had a tough home game v West 1 team Oban in their BT Regional West Shield Semi Final.

The teams traded penalties then tries (Annan try though Sean Haren) to end up level at 10-10 after 26 minutes.

This looked likely to be the half time score but a great Annan move with 3 minutes left put Andrew Jancey in.

Oban Lorne hit back though on the half time whistle with a try of their own to take the half time score to 17-15.

The other Annan points coming from the boot of Captain Craig McCann (1P, 2C)

In the 2nd half, there was no further scores until the 78 minute when Captain Craig McCann sealed the win with a well worked try. He also converted.

Final Score: Annan 24 v Oban Lorne 15

Annan will take on current West 1 leaders Carrick who beat Glasgow Accies 36-25. Final is to be played on the 20th February 2016. Venue: Carrick

Annan were 27-12 up with 20 to go but a great Stewartry fightback meant a nervous last 15 minutes for Annan. But the Annan resolve was too great and Annan regain the Chisholm Cup, 4 league points and now lead 8-7 in the Chisholm Cup standing. Nice!

    ANNAN BEATEN IN FINAL
    22ND AUGUST 2015

    DUMFRIES RETAIN TROPHY

Dumfries proved too strong in the 14th Violetbank Tournament beating Annan 24 v 0 in the final.

The tournament started with only 4 teams after St Boswells, Penrith, Stewartry and Langholm all pulled out during the week.

Dumfries however had brought enough players for a 2nd team and a President XV was also put together.

So we had 2 groups of 3 (Annan, Moffat and Dumfries B / President XV, Dumfries A and Newton Stewart)

Annan's first game was again Moffat (who had been beaten 50-0 in their 1st game v Dumfries B). It was a closer encounter this time for Moffat and Annan ran out 22-14 winners

Annan then took on the rampant Dumfries B team but Annan scored 5 tries to 1 to win 29-5

In the other half of the draw, Dumfries A proved too strong for the President XV and Newton Stewart.

In the final, Dumfries scores the only try in the 1st half to lead 7-0. Dumfries then ran in 2 further tries to run out 24-0 winners. Dumfries have now won the trophy for the last 3 year. Congratulations to Dumfries RFC.

Our thanks to all the clubs, players, supporters and volunteers who turned up and made the 14th Violetbank Tournament a great day!

    2NDS AT THE MOFFAT 10's
    15TH AUGUST 2015

    NOT AS GOOD THIS WEEKEND

Annan’s 2nd XV squad travelled to Moffat on Saturday to take part in Moffat RFC’s Annual 10’s tournament and after their previous weeks’ success at the Bannockburn 10’s tournament hopes were high for further success but alas it was not to be.

Annan’s first game was against Hawick Harlequins and were well beaten 27-12 with Callum Nicholson and Colin Warrick getting the Annan tries with Cairn Wallace adding the extras.

Annan then progressed to the Quaich Tournament for first round losers where they met Earlston who won 22 – 0. All in all not one of Annan’s better days at the office.

For the record the tournament was won by Dalkeith who beat Stewartry 35 – 17 in the final to take the title for the fourth year in a row!

The Annan players now have to regroup and get ready for a trial game v Carlisle on Tuesday and then the Violetbank Tournament next Saturday.

    SECONDS REACH THE FINAL
    8TH AUGUST 2015

ANNAN PIPPED AT THE POST IN THE BANNOCKBURN 10s

With an early 8am start to get to the Bannockburn 10's, the Annan lads played some great rugby, winning all their group games.

Annan reached the final after a walkover in the Semi Final when a battered and bruised Marr team could not raise enough players.

The final was against Aberfeldy RFC - a new club just established back in April.

The game was one game too far for the Annan lads who went down 12-7.

Great effort from the boys though! Roll on the new season!

    ANNUAL AGM
    23RD JULY 2015

    ANNUAL AGM REPORT

Annan RFC held its Annual General Meeting in their Bank Street clubhouse on Thursday 23rd July at 8pm.

An excellent turnout was welcomed by Gary Coupland who was standing in for acting President Neil Wallace who was unavailable due to work commitments but had provided a President’s Report.

In his report Neil reported that the preceding season had been a mixed bag with the 1st XV relegated to West 2 of The BT Regional Leagues but the 2nd XV after a poor start ended up 4th in BT Reserve League West 2.

Whilst the senior teams had struggled the youth side had gone from strength to strength throughout the season and the season had also seen the formation of the Annan Warriors and Hornets Ladies Teams.

The Warriors will be playing league rugby in the coming season in BT Women's National League Division 2.

The club had to move forward and become a more family orientated community club and look to the challenges ahead.

Treasurer Chris Lake provided his financial statement which showed that the club’s finances were in good health which would allow the club to upgrade the floodlights at Violetbank and also continue with the ongoing drainage works to the pitches.
